The Supreme Court Thread
Re: The Supreme Court Thread
True that it's a supermajority, as well it should be. No problem there. The problem is that the times are contentious, and that supermajority is essentially unattainable.
Obviously such a problem is not with the process, it's with the people who must make it work.

Bullshit. I know far more than you will ever know about our system and our history. All you say is what Dear Leader tells you to say.JoeMemphis wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 1:11 pm Says the man who doesn’t know what he thinks or why. He must rely on others to tell him.

That’s all you have. Nothing of substance. Just insults. Shallow. And then you will start whining how people pick on you. Run along.

I don’t think anyone is picking on me. You’re beneath my contempt. You’re just a sad little man.

Yet you whine on about shit that was posted about you years ago. You bring it up over and over and over and over. It gnaws at you to this day. If it didn’t you wouldn’t keep bringing it up. But you do. You will again.

I’ll admit I didn’t believe your self serving explanation. Still don’t. I do believe they asked you to leave. That was probably the only truthful thing you said. And your termination and how you deal with it are more your problem than it is anyone else’s. You are the guy that keep bringing it up. I didn’t believe that bs story then. I don’t believe it now.
Re: The Supreme Court Thread
Nah, you just made shit up and pretended it was the truth. Just like you lied and said no one got COVID in the county your lake house was in, no one was hospitalized and no one died.JoeMemphis wrote: ↑Mon Jul 08, 2024 4:46 pm I’ll admit I didn’t believe your self serving explanation. Five minutes on Google proved you were a liar. Just like, I wasn’t terminated. I didn’t have to leave. Some folks didn’t. They asked everyone that could retire to retire, because they wanted to save the jobs of the younger people. Having had to lay off half my staff was the hardest thing I ever did, and I wanted to save their jobs. So I retired.
But you just keep lying like you know what really happened. That’s the difference between you and I. I wouldn’t lie about you like that. I think you can’t even see anyone putting others before themselves. You’re too self-centered to care about anyone else at all.

You lie all the time. So claiming there is something you won’t lie about is just more bullshit. If you truly cared about other people you wouldn’t lie all the time. As for self-centered, nobody talks about themselves more than you. You just proved it with the “that’s the difference between you and I”. You always want to talk about you. You always whine about how people treat you. Nobody gives a shit. Nobody wants to be you. Get over it. You are more like Trump than any human being I know.gounion wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2024 9:32 am Nah, you just made shit up and pretended it was the truth. It won't pass but it's a start.
Biden seriously considering proposals on Supreme Court term limits, ethics code, AP sources say
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Joe Biden is seriously considering proposals to establish term limits for U.S. Supreme Court justices, and an ethics code that would be enforceable under law amid growing concerns that the justices are not held accountable, according to three people briefed on the plans.
It would mark a major shift for Biden, the former head of the Senate Judiciary Committee, who has long resisted calls to reform the high court, though since taking office he has been increasingly vocal about his belief that the court is abandoning mainstream constitutional interpretation. The details were first reported by The Washington Post.

Re: The Supreme Court Thread
The right screams for term limits on Congress and Senate, but they've got the Court where they want it, so they'd fight this tooth and nail.
what I always found funny is that Glenn always wanted term limits, but voted for Strom Thurmond every damned time.

From a mainstream constitutional perspective, does POTUS have that authority? I think it would require at least legislation. POTUS can’t unilaterally manage other branches other than the executive and vice versa.ap215 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 8:48 am It won't pass but it's a start.

Just injecting some reality. The American people aren't happy with this Supreme Court overturning years of precedent. It's an activist court that wants to make changes the American people don't want.

Re: The Supreme Court Thread
My recollection (very possibly wrong) is that the Senate deliberately stalled the Democratic president's picks for SCOTUS, in hope (successful) that the biggest asshole in New York would be our next POTUS.
Say, how's that working out?

That IS the point of the American people, according to polls. And the GOP has done terribly at elections ever since the Court overturned Roe v. Wade, and the immunity ruling isn’t popular either, even if you and Glenn love it.
