Doris Day, Singer/Actress/Animal Rights Activist has died at the age of 97.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/doris-da ... 945ff101fe.

The legendary actress died at her Carmel Valley, California, home surrounded by close friends. Day “Had been in excellent physical health for her age, until recently contracting a serious case of pneumonia,” the foundation said in a statement to The Associated Press.

Ms. Day made numerous movies in the 1950's and 1960's. One of her favorite Leading Men was Rock Hudson who later died A.I.D.S.

Her son was Terry Melcher, who at one time was a target of Charles Manson.

Some of Ms. Day's movies were somewhat saccharine for my taste. She did have a lovely singing voice.

Doris Day, age 97 has passed.

Sure, she could sing, and do the comedy, even a pretty good dramatic part. But let us not forget that Doris Day was gorgeous and...really put together. I was probably just 35 years old or so, watching the Tonight Show minding my own business one night, when Doris Day walks out onto the stage. It was in the early 70's, she was in her early 50's at the time...and that blue pantsuit...I'm still not over it. The wholesome and innocent Doris Day was gone forever.

She was a beauty. She also had a keen mind. What my Dad used to call, "A Total Package".

An aside, Carson wore some ugly ass suits.

I think my favorite of their (Rock Hudson and Doris Day) movies was "Lover Come Back." I was only 16 at the time and had never seen a mainstream movie with anything you could call "erotic" included. In the film, one scene had Hudson and Day wake up wearing the same, single pair of pajamas. She wearing the top and he wearing the bottom.

Pretty mild by today's standards, even on TV, but this was 1961.

Terry Melcher, managed to extract himself from his relationship with Charlie Manson, and move out of the Cielo Dr. house prior to the Manson family's murder of Sharon Tate and three friends. Charlie was rejected for a recording contract by Melcher, and Charlie didn't take rejection very well. The word was that part of the reason Manson picked Melcher's former residence was to send a "you're next" message to Melcher, which never happened, and Doris Day outlived her only child by 15 years.

It's a long and often disquieting story about Doris Day. All four of her husband's wronged her in one way or another. And Marty Melcher, her third, and his business partner blew every penny of the millions of dollars she had earned. She had no idea until the former Jew turned Christian Scientist died in 1968 of un-attended heart disease and she found out she was several million dollars in debt. She sued his production company, driving the partner into bankruptcy, and getting a $20 million dollar court judgement, which was negotiated down to $6 million by the insurance company (about $30 million in today's dollars). Doris turned that money and her future earnings into close to $200 million by the time she died. She had no heirs (her son died of malignant melanoma fifteen years ago) or other family that she was close to, so every penny went to charity, I suspect most of it to the animal welfare foundation that she founded in 1978.

I notice that Carol Wayne was also a guest that night, a very talented and brilliant woman who died very young under suspicious circumstances.

Here's a "blue" thing for you. This is my all-time favorite number of Doris Day's, for kind of the same reasons. She's playing Ruth Etting in Love Me or Leave Me. I think she's so beautiful in this -- she's all limbs, omg. And plus, I love Ruth Etting.

She's also stunning in "Ten Cents A Dance", which is about being a ho'. Omg, she's so pretty in this. I've always been fascinated at the casting of Day in it, on the same level of the casting of Dorothy Dandridge as Carmen as Carmen Jones.

I also really loved her in Lullaby of Broadway, a throwback to Golddigers of 1935 and the Warner Bros/Busby Berkeley era. Starts out the same way.

Gene Nelson is also really wonderful.

Yes, Dorothy Dandridge, where I get my screen name, got caught up with the same jackass investor. There are some parallels with Dandridge and Day.

You've set the table, now's the time to bring up that she was a life long Republican.

Now's the time to bring up that being a Republican in the 1950's and 1960's ain't nowhere near the same as being a Republican from the 1990's through today.

Sam is really a lot like Donald Trump. He's here sitting back, just waiting for the next person he can fuck with. I'm not suggesting it's planned or even thoughtful...just the way it goes.

Sadly Sam remained stuck in the pre-operational stage where echolalia strikes deep.
