Judge denies Trump administration request to delay deadline to release migrants from ICE detention centers

A federal judge denied a request from the Trump administration to delay its deadline to release migrants from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centers.

U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee ruled in late June that children in ICE detention centers must be released “with all deliberate speed,” due to coronavirus infections within facilities. The judge have the federal government a deadline of July 17 to comply. She later extended the deadline to July 27 after a motion from the Trump administration.

Acting ICE chief announces retirement following clashes with Trump officials
White House officials had accused Albence of favoring humanitarian concerns about the treatment of immigrants over the chance to take more aggressive action.

The acting chief of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Matthew Albence, is leaving the government.

A career law enforcement officer who filled a number of positions within the Department of Homeland Security agency, Albence recently sparred with White House officials over how to handle ICE’s mission amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Trump officials accused Albence of favoring humanitarian concerns about the treatment of immigrants over the chance to take more aggressive action, POLITICO reported in March. Albence’s decision to halt most ICE enforcement efforts put him on thin ice with White House officials, a conflict that was part of a broader dispute between Albence and administration leaders.

ICE is illegally detaining immigrant children in hotels. Watch these lawyers get violently removed from a Hampton Inn in Texas after trying to give legal aid to the kids there
deporting the kids with no due process and some kind of plain clothed secret police who wont say who they are.

Jesus, you quote Politico who was at one time scornfully referred to has Romney campaign central, saying the Trump administration "accused Albence of favoring humanitarian concerns," bolding "favoring humanitarian concerns" after them having appointed him, being the only administration to ever appoint him, saying they were appointing him to get tougher.

Here's a link to C-Span on Twitter with Kamala Harris goring him for saying to the Senate Judiciary Committee the detention centers where immigrant families are kept have a summer camp’ atmosphere:

https://twitter.com/cspan/status/104208 ... albence%2F

Heavy reports his testimony to the committee as:

"Albence claimed that the facilities where families were kept were more like “summer camps” than detention centers. He explained to lawmakers in the hearing broadcast on CSPAN, “These individuals have access to 24/7 food and water."

Which probably not as good as 7/11 food and water. :(

"They have educational opportunities. They have recreational opportunities, both structured as well as unstructured. There are basketball courts, there are exercise classes, there are soccer fields that we put in there."

He "called on Lawmakers to Terminate the Flores Settlement Agreement, Which Mandates That Children Cannot Be Detained Longer Than 20 Days."

"At the time, John Kelly was the Homeland Security Secretary and Albence reported to him. He and other members of the Trump administration had pushed for agents to focus on apprehending illegal immigrants that had committed crimes or posed a security risk. But Albence instructed agents to detain any undocumented immigrants they came across, regardless of criminal history."

Cry no tears for him Libertas. Grin instead while the revolving door slams him on his ass. :)

U.S. isolates detained immigrants from majority-black countries at high rate, study finds

U.S. immigration authorities locked detainees from African and Caribbean countries in solitary confinement cells six times as often as the population at large, a new study finds.

U.S. immigration authorities locked detainees from African and Caribbean countries in solitary confinement cells six times as often as the population at large, a new study finds.

Detainees from these predominantly black countries made up just 4% of detainees in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody from 2012 to 2017 — but 24% of all solitary confinement stays, the forthcoming report from researchers at the University of California concludes.

The disparity is due in part to ICE personnel using solitary confinement as a tool to discipline detainees from Africa and the Caribbean much more often than for people from other countries. The stark racial difference, the authors say, parallels the most painful inequities of America’s criminal justice system.

“The treatment of black immigrants in detention mirrors that of black individuals in jails and prisons,” said Keramet Reiter, an associate professor at University of California, Irvine, and a co-author of the study.
