The sudden suppression of the document, however, will almost certainly be seen as a cover-up. It guarantees that a possibly baseless accusation will spread far and wide, becoming folklore and essentially regarded as truth.

They are not completely futile, as they have worked in the long term to create instability in the US which can contribute to a "turn the bastards out" wave in midterm elections. We'll suffer a disruptive and ultimately catastrophic outcome on the world stage well before that.
