Two other TV Ads i couldn't stand the Going Out Of Business ads when you see a department store or any other business company putting out items saying stuff like it's our Going Out Of Business sale the other the Sex Hotline ads i remember many years ago USA Network was the only network to show those commercials during the late nights with these women showing their skin wearing either a bikini or lingerie in a hotel room or a bathroom holding a phone receiver by the hand to their ear wanting to have a conversation with you along with playing those crappy soul music instrumentals pathetic.

Speaking of models, ever notice how beautiful women models don't smile in commercials for things like perfume or clothes. You'd think a company would rather see the model smiling show she's happy with the product rather pouting.

I don't see TV ads anymore. I stream everything now. There are ads that pop up in online services but I always ignore them.

I did grow up parked in front of the TV though, and I still remember a lot of TV ad jingles from the 70's and 80's. I'm cursed.

Streamers are all going to a subscription plus advertising model. Same on computers. You see the same dumb ads for the same greedy corporations. Sometimes you can fast-forward them, but they're onto that, and often now that makes the show lose sync and you have to restart it.

The streamers we use are getting as bad as old-school cable TV. You pay up front and then you sit through ads anyway. Gotcha.

Even YouTube. Notice that white line under the video where the pointer shows where you are. It has breaks in it now.

Sometimes, increasingly, that's where the commercials go.

The Classified Money Making Ads The first time i saw that was when the late Phil Rizzuto did a commercial for The Money Store which is a Mortgage company saying how this would help out your mortgage etc i also remember watching Don Lapre & Matthew Lesko talking about how making money would impact & change your lives to make you rich which is now all for nothing.

The Contest Ads I've seen those alot like Publishers Clearing House with the late great Ed McMahon talking about entering PCH & making you millions of dollars for ordering magazines etc now it's Steve Harvey doing those commercials if i'm a celebrity & their agent i would ask whoever is in charge there what the hell are they letting me promote this stuff total garbage.

CNBC is like that too. Some retirement plan type scam hasn't changed their ad in many years. It's always the same two old farts being yelled at by a guy underground to give the advertiser all their money.

The Medicare Advantage ads are for suckers. What they infer is their plan(s) is associated with Medicare when it's not.

The Cigarette Smoking Ads this was way before my time back in the 1950's there was a ton of Cigarette Smoking Ads like Camel, Marlboro saying how smoking was safe & they were good for your health this go around today you would see a ton of anti smoking commercials, hotlines & now you can include the internet for offering help to smoking addicts like vaping etc.

The Say No To Drug Ads I don't wanna be too harsh but i was born in 1975 in the 80's it was a heavy pro drug addiction year in that era i thought those ads would be effective & reach out to others who were addicted to drugs & save their lives but it wasn't enough to suppress it plus you had gangs selling drugs to drug lords to make a buck & get away from getting caught it's still a problem today but to a lesser extent now it's hotlines, the internet etc to help & reaching out to people who are still addicted to drugs & saving their lives.

Oh sure, that one is semiological warfare. Note the red white and blue art direction that just screams "Government Approved." Also there are those big letters that our aged friends can read, and that slow delivery by a voiceover of doom right out of those 1950s TV compilations of old WWII b/w combat footage.

That's instant channel change button for me.

What we need is a channel/stream/brainwave helmet/whatever comes next with nothing but that inscrutable 1960s b/w Indian test pattern with the linearity and resolution weirdness all over it. Maybe a 440 Hz tone to complete the homage. It could be the official go-to channel when a commercial somewhere else hits overload.
