Weird Al Tour 2025

Post by gounion »

Coming to Nashville. Yep, I'm thinking about it.
:D :D :D :D :D
Update: Yup, just bought my tix for the show - Next September.

My wife like Weird Al too. Guess I should have asked that before we got married - could have been a dealbreaker!

I listened to Dr. Demento back in the seventies as a teen. We go way back. :D

Dr. Demento had a Master's in musicology at UCLA, which is where much of his live talent came from. Not Weird Al, though, he went to Cal Poly. Dr. D was mandatory listening for many years around here. His people were our people.

When I first read the title of this thread I read it as, Weird Ai Tour and thought it had something to do with a traveling tech show of some kind, heheh.

Weird artificial intelligence would indicate that the more creative nerds are infiltrating and humanizing the technology. It's usually a good thing when this happens.

Who will put out the first chipset for artificial weirdness?

Because Roku is who made the movie. Instead of playing other people's movies, they push their own. As for Weird Al movies, it was decent, but I much prefer UHF.

A lot of the product is now paid for by various streaming services. Netflix used to practically keep the town working all by itself, but now they've found out that it's still a business. Amazon bought the old Culver City Studios that had been originally built to shoot silent movies, but they've peaked too and they're in the reality phase now. Fox is now all TV, even the Hello Dolly set. The back lot is now a high rise development. Universal is a theme park with a "lower lot" they rent to any producer with the money. MGM is now a resort and casino company, and their old lot is now something called Sony Pictures, which remains busy but I suspect it's all rentals. Too bad, it used to have the best commissary in town.

Paramount is still in darkest Hollywood, right next to the graveyard, and it's still a nice old lot. Just don't park on the street anywhere around there.

its all gotten so weird. i was in a casino the other night, first time in ages. first time since when
you could identify a slot machine.

this crap theyve overblown in size and game scenario is awful IMHO. :(
i went thru $10 and barely had any play. found some old type slots and went thru quarters
very fast with no reward; in both situations i saw no reason to keep feeding the machines
money...not even a smile? no ding dings...nada.
it got boring very fast for me.

i found it obnoxious a casino blinds people with phone type apps blasting in all directions like
its kids at daycare.
that place, these casinos, must be raking in so much dinero..its stunning to me. people just sit there
and stuff their money in those over blown over drawn machines.
the slots i knew in vegas visits were way more fun and way more rewarding, they kept you sitting
there bullshitting having a drink and playing the slot with the nice occasional win.
youd hear the bells ring.
i didnt hear anything like that recently.

these slots today?...seem insulting to me. insulting to humans.
....im thinking thats what AI does...

all these movies showing up on these stream services...never heard of any of them. :|
but now i know why hollywood is busy....tho soon they wont need any humans on set with AI sucking all the oxygen.

Yes, the streamers caused a huge increase in production and employed everybody, but that euphoria was short lived. First Covid killed theatrical and also stopped some production, and then the strikes stopped everything dead in the water. After that, everyone expected a huge boom when the strikes ended and everyone needed product all at once, but for various reasons relating to streaming becoming a more mature industry, that didn't happen. There's actually less work than everyone expected.

Also, if machines are going to make the product for us, they can do it anywhere and phone it in. All the things that are wrong with LA, such as expensive housing, crime, and a generally depressing and hostile atmosphere make productions less inclined to shoot here. Some have said that Brooklyn is the new Hollywood, and there's something to that. Don't forget the movies were invented in New York. They came to LA for the climate, and to escape Edison's copyright enforcement, but now with location shoots, machines making ever more of the footage, and the same corporate system pretty much everywhere, that's not as big a deal.
