ICE
Re: ICE
This whole mess got started when jack-booted body-armored and masked secret police raided something or other. No one is quite sure what. At the start, the rumor was that they were sweeping up the day laborers who hang around every Home Depot looking for work. These guys aren't all wetbacks, but they do tend to be Spanish speaking, and so the conservatives who took over our country when we weren't looking figure they're all undocumented workers at best and dangerous drug gangsters at worst. Mostly that worst thing. Conservatives like to jump to the wildest ideas that they can scare themselves and others with by spouting them at any opportunity. Don't forget that our current freely (?) elected president says they eat pet cats.
These rumors turned out to be bogus. The raids were at some corporate warehouse type places that I forget the names of. However, the angry response let a bunch of pols who turn purple at the very idea of California get their show on the road. Expensive show. You pay for it.
Note that there had already been a large protest scheduled for that day, so a lot of the people downtown when it started were there to peacefully exercise their right to redress of grievances. Very few, if any, of the original demonstrators were undocumented workers. Not even the union leader who the Feds worked over, injured, and carted off to the big house (he's since gotten out).
There is no rebellion in LA. A few of the usual troublemakers saw a chance to cover everything with graffiti, the way they always do, so we the taxpayers could (once again) pay for painting over it. Once the troops and cops and Nooz started up, some other folks got inspired to block the freeway, which is civil disobedience LA style. Later on, when it was clear that hundreds of cops, news reporters, et al were all there looking for something to get them started, some bozo called up Waymo on their cell phone(*) and burned the driverless cars (which cost about a megabuck each) when they got there. That's probably when Hegseth decided he needed the Marines (even though it's completely unconstitutional). That's why violence against property is such a stupid idea, unless you are consciously trying to start something you can't finish.
The other thousand people in the street were singing songs and carrying signs, mostly said hurray for our side. Oh, also some Mexican flags. That, briefly, became illegal in The Land of the Free.
------------
Yesterday, nothing happened at all. The four news helicopters, two cop helicopters, one CHP fixed-wing, and hundreds of assembled Nooz media spent the afternoon watching about 75 people listening to a DJ van. Pretty dangerous, that. Send the Marines! Quick!!!!!!
From the halls of Montezuma, to the streets of old LA.
Insanity.
------
*DO NOT use your cell phone at events of this type. Best is to leave it at home, barring that at least turn it off. Don't take pictures with it. There's a device called a camera for that. Every cell phone carries as much instrumentation as a spacecraft, and it tracks your every move. They'll trace the idiots who called the Waymos and they'll be off to the Big House. Serves them right, too.

Re: ICE
Sounds like it started in the Los Angeles Fashion District and escalated the next day at a Home Depot.
Interesting that...
(By 1982 the district was a roughly 20 block area from Maple to Main and 7th to 12th streets and had become a popular place for Angelenos to seek fashions at cheaper prices. There were about 500 retail outlets, and key destinations for shoppers included the Cooper Building, the Fashion Center Building and "The Alley", now known as Santee Alley.[7]
Workers are mostly Latin American and Asian immigrants.[8][9] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angel ... n_District)
Seems they are running out of so called murderers and rapists to arrest. Miller goes off on a rant on wanting more arrests in a meeting with ICE and wonders why they are not hitting Home Depots and 7-11's. My guess, if unchecked, their dream is to get rid of the Dreamers too.
Do ya get it now Sen. Ileana Garcia? They want as many Hispanics as they can get gone. They want it disassembled like they disassembled black communities with Redlining and Freeways. And if that don't work i wouldn't put past them to try a new age Tulsa.
We are now way beyond Project 2025. Not even they can stop Trump now.

Re: ICE
Los Alamitos is a joint training base south east of Long Beach. It has an airfield so it's used a lot for logistics and civil government programs like the Medfly thing.
Turns out that the usual goon squad looted last night so now the downtown has a nightly curfew UFN.
Now Nooz says ICE did hit a Home Depot.
Drumpf's military birthday party is going to cost taxpayers more than the LA ops. It's well into the tens of millions. Ka-ching.
The governor still continues to show a very impressive pair of balls. He's gotta be the presidential nomination front runner at the moment.

So basically it's the same problem as before. There's a day crew and a night crew. Now i get why King wouldn't demonstrate at night. The night crew doesn't always have the best intentions in mind.

"Just go out there and arrest illegal aliens": Stephen Miller urged ICE to target Home Depot
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/June_2025 ... BackgroundAmeeting last month between federal immigration officials and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller likely prompted the immigration sweeps in Los Angeles on Friday.
According to the Washington Examiner, Miller called an emergency meeting with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s top 50 field heads in Washington, D.C., berating them for the agency’s arrest and deportation numbers. Miller told agents that criminals — or the “worst of the worst” — needn’t be ICE’s sole targets. Instead, he told them to “just go out there and arrest illegal aliens,” the Wall Street Journal reported.
June 6
At approximately 9:15 a.m. PDT on Friday morning, an immigration raid was conducted within the Los Angeles Fashion District; two other raids occurred at a clothing wholesaler and a Home Depot in Westlake.[40][41] Agents present at the raid were identified with Federal Bureau of Investigation, Homeland Security Investigations, and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives patches.[41]
We've gone from criminals to dat laborers. Just fucking wonderful. Next up Birthright Citizenship.June 7
Protests continued through Saturday.[48] According to Peggy Lemons, the mayor of Paramount, California, a confrontation near a Home Depot in Paramount began after protesters observed Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers staging near a local branch building.[49][c]

Re: ICE
Yes, now in the light of day, it strongly appears that the issue did seem to go critical when secret ICE busts hit a Home Depot or two. That's when the union guy got worked over and jailed. They also picked up day laborers, mostly here legally, who speak only Spanish. For decades now, these essential workers have diligently hit the bricks every morning in the Home Depot driveways looking you in the eye and asking, "Trabajo?" They're doing the American Dream, they obey the law, and the Republican goon squad goes after them anyway.
You can't get an accurate account from the Nooz, which is of course more into spectacle and cops shooting "less lethal" rounds at scared immigrants and your occasional news reporter (as happened on Channel 5 two days ago). As we're only too aware, the Nooz does not deal in political problem solving. They deal in fear because it increases ratings and allows them to get higher ad prices from the hundreds of 1-800-SOSUEME law firms which have become the biggest industry in LA.
Yes, there is always a day squad and a night squad. The mayor made that point. She's Black, she's hip to LA, and she's right. The day squad marches around, paints graffiti, carries signs, and waves whatever flags are relevant this go-round. Sometimes a white citizen subset holds prayer vigils with lots of music, making rich Westsiders feel better. All of this periodic rite of summer is very newsworthy, but it accomplishes nothing of substance.
The night squad comes in around sundown, and loots stores, starts fires, and generally makes a mess of things. A few might have real political convictions, but others just like to make trouble. They not only do not accomplish anything of substance, but they're the reasons why every decade or so LA has another one of these go-rounds that leaves burned out markets, unhappy people, and racial mistrust.
There is no solution that I can see until the United States gets serious about problem solving, instead of making the country's politics into a facistic patriotism test.

Re: ICE
That goes right to the hypocrisy of all this. Take away the immigrants, and the economy tanks.
The troops actually have nothing much to do. They are a show. It was cheaper than hiring dress extras. On occasion, they create gaps in the angry mobs so that traffic can enter Federal buildings that pissed off American citizens are trying to block. Trained soldiers who honorably serve their country are placed in harm's way for a political spectacle. Indeed, the hypocrisy of all this is on parade for anyone with eyes open to see it.
Indeed, their billets are costing we the taxpayers a bundle, and they're still inadequate. These soldiers who joined up to serve their country are now tools of a rapacious oligarchy which wouldn't think of serving. Doesn't pay as well as working in Daddy's conglomerate, and besides, sometimes someone even shoots at you.

Re: ICE
The LAPD and California National Guard have generations of experience in handling the toxic racial situation in LA. The Marines are not trained for this, and they are not needed. It's just wasting more taxpayer money to hide a fundamental constitutional issue caused by the ICE raids, the squads of masked Gestapo making people disappear for racist reasons, and the militarization of society. This atrocity serves no purpose except as a PR stunt intended to cover the abuses committed by the Trump administration's gross violation of every law the country ever passed to prevent such abuse.

Brad Lander Detained by Masked Federal Agents Inside Immigration Court
New York City Comptroller Brad Lander was detained inside a Lower Manhattan immigration court building Tuesday morning by masked federal agents as he attempted to escort a man from his court appearance there.
Moments ahead of his detention, Lander had linked arms with the man leaving an immigration courtroom on the 12th floor, refusing to let go as masked federal agents pushed into the crowd attempting to pull the man away.

Masked men in U.S. Border Patrol vests take Santa Ana father after repeatedly hitting him
In a graphic video that has since gone viral on social media, about seven or more masked men wearing U.S. Border Patrol vests are seen violently detaining a father in Santa Ana before forcing him into the back of an unmarked car on Saturday.
The violent incident sparked protests in the following hours, and an online fundraiser was started through GoFundMe, where family members identified the victim as Tustin resident Narciso Barranco, a father to three sons who are all U.S. Marines.

Re: ICE
We can't even call them "ICE raids" any more. It seems clear that strapped-up bigots with nothing to do with law enforcement are, on occasion, taking things into their own hands. They get to play soldier. I don't know what happens to the people they kidnap, but it can't be good.

Re: ICE
None of this is good. ICE has been turned into Trump's loyal paramilitary force. If that isn't bad enough his purge of the military is almost complete.

Re: ICE
Kent State answered that one most definitively, before most of us were born.
To refresh people on US history, the Ohio National Guard opened fire for no reason, killing four students who had done nothing except being in the wrong place at the wrong time. This caused a shitstorm in the US that led indirectly to the de-escalation of the Vietnam war.
I wonder what will cause the shitstorm this time.

i have this feeling the war on liberals is different this time. If Kent State happened now there's a good chunk of the population that would justify it. The rat bastards had it coming.
i dunno.....it seems i'm running into more and more conservatives that seem to think it's a life or death war with liberals. The rhetoric and hate seems to be skyrocketing.

Re: ICE
We'll see how brave they are when the real shit hits the fan.
A good chunk of the population after Kent State was very vocal in their declarations that those overprivileged ungrateful college kids had it coming. Something similar is probably inevitable, because that is how many Americans think.
It still led to the de-escalation of the Vietnam war. The generally apathetic population turned against it, and everything after that was about getting it over with and bringing troops home. It led to a lot more indiscriminate bombing to cover the US ground forces getting the hell out of there, but everyone knew that the war was officially a lost cause.
