Another show bites the dust

Post by ZoWie »

Kimmel had the balls to say the following one-liner on late night TV:

[summarized, but not by much]
I can't be sure that the assassin in Utah was a left winger. Just because Trump said so doesn't make it an undisputed fact.
The show is off-air indefinitely. That's victim number two on the right wing hit list.

We now have Russian level censorship of our media, and it's not Trump but corporate leaders who are trying to get mega mergers approved by Trump's right wing buddies. Fascism comes from many sources............

Jimmy Kimmel’s Return to TV Comes with a Shocking Set of Demands

In the world of late-night television, few hosts stir up as much conversation as Jimmy Kimmel. Known for his sharp humor and political commentary, Kimmel has long been a prominent figure in the entertainment landscape. However, his recent comments have led to a flurry of controversy, with significant consequences for his long-running show.

Flurry of controversy......

On this coast it looks more like an uprising.

The issue is laid out for us in the starkest terms imaginable. A fascist calls for mass extermination of undesirables on Faux Nooz and nothing happens, because Faux is part of the machine. A couple of B-list comics make bad late night TV jokes that happen to piss off a very easily pissable president, and two well known shows are off the air forever. Not even Family Hour. It was late night TV, which up until maybe two months ago was regarded by everyone concerned as a Get Out Of Antiquated and Largely Unenforced FCC Rules Free Card.

Open your eyes. The situation is right out there for anyone to see, if they are looking. The right can come on a prime time news show and call for mass extermination, and there's not a peep from anywhere. Boys will be boys, I guess. At the same exact time, a couple of B-list comics make a couple of politically incorrect jokes on two late night shows with owners who have big mergers pending, and KABOOOOOM the whole shows are vaporized, along with about 100 well-paying UNION industry jobs.

If the revolution has to start in the streets in front of the studios and the FCC and the White House, then get fucking on with it.

Seeing a pattern of weak and cowardly use of power and concentrated power by trump and his administration, like using a militarized police force to hunt down immigrants at their church or job or court appearance, or a battleship firing missiles at a small fishing boats or declaring a nightly talk show host has committed illegal comedy, or the forced starvation and genocide of vulnerable population of people of which half are children. Its the kind of cowardice and show of weakness that authorities often call out during press conferences of Americas many many mass shootings where the shooter is wrapped in body armor and using legally purchased weapons of war, preys upon vulnerable unsuspecting people just going about their lives at the grocery store or workplace or church or wherever. Trump and his administration appear extremely weak against things like criticism and problem solving and use of power and justice.

Agreed that political power turns fat stupid overprivileged creeps into big fearless men because finally they have the tools to intimidate or even kill. That's why we fell down badly on our democratic small d responsibility to make sure that the people to whom we give such power are on the side of human decency.

It's easier to stop fascism when it's still an idea rather than a power structure. Oops. Looks like it's too late for that now, so what do you suggest?

Kimmel's show is reinstated! ABC apparently caved to popular opinion, because late night TV ratings in general are down since people like to curl up with cell phones instead. So it wasn't for financial reasons. It would appear that someone did the right thing, rare as that is in this country.

The initial announcement was made by some corporate type who walked out into the street in front of the studio where yet another rally was going on. Cheers broke out.

Love

Thats the simple way to put it, MLK said darkness wont drive out darkness only the light can do that, the Obama's put it as when they go low we go high. We must oppose the fascism with democracy, oppose the hate with love, oppose the scapegoating with acceptance of those scapegoated, we must oppose the concentrating of wealth and power with sharing, we must oppose the warmongering and endless war with peace, we oppose the forced starvation of people with feeding them, we must oppose the homelessness with housing people.

Its a lot easier than it seems really.

I do all those things, and I always have. The hard part is getting other people to go along with us. Right now I'm open to any suggestions. The Internet is good for communications with like-minded people, but it also encourages polarization and fringe thinking. We need to do something else, like committees of correspondence, publicity grabbing mass actions, or other such public karma.
