F1: All's bad that starts badly

Post by ZoWie »

Chinese GP was, uh, different. I'm still not paying the oligarchy to see the races, but I did read all about it. Not the same thing, but then everything else sucks in Trump II so this might as well too.

Hamilton liked it. He's finally competitive. McLaren and Red Bull, last year's contenders, weren't so impressed. Neither McLaren started, and Verstappen didn't finish.

There is general agreement that the straight-line boost is kind of a mixed blessing, because cars that use it to pass on the straights haven't fully recharged the hybrid system when they get to the corners, and they lose the position. There's also a subtext that cornering is more like slot racing. (Anyone remember slot racing? Used electric powered model cars remotely controlled. Huge in the 1980s.)

Careful what you wish for. Lots of people also thought Donald Trump was a peace candidate.

Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, often finds phrases of elegant simplicity that nail the heart of an issue.

Living a nightmare of deja vu from a decade ago with a Honda engine short of power and hybrid capability, Alonso described the new season as "the battery world championship".
