A 1945 bowling alley on Main Street that had been closed is being restored.
Owner Kevin O’Brien wants Dubuque Bowling Lanes to maintain its vintage look across the six-lane alley and bar in the second floor of 1029 Main St.
“The bowling alley on Main Street, you walk up the stairs, then you’ve got these beautiful 6 lanes. I think that’s pretty special,” O’Brien said. “It’s kind of got a little bit of the speakeasy vibe.”
The bowling alley is set for a grand opening later this year, but O’Brien said the lanes are in a soft opening phase with limited, varying hours. He posts hours to social media, but also plans to use the space to host bowling leagues, live music, private events and parties.
