What else is new.

House conservatives prep plans to impeach Biden

Republicans hoping to seize control of the House in November are already setting their sights on what is, for many of them, a top priority next year: impeaching President Biden.

A number of rank-and-file conservatives have already introduced impeachment articles in the current Congress against the president. They accuse Biden of committing “high crimes” in his approach to a range of issues touching on border enforcement, the coronavirus pandemic and the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

California Governor Gavin Newsom Signs Senator Bill Dodd’s Faithless Electors Bill – Ensures Presidential Electors Cast Ballots for Candidates Who Won the Popular Vote

August 30, 2022 - SACRAMENTO – Responding to recent threats to the nation’s free election system by followers of former President Donald Trump, California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed legislation from Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, that will ensure the state’s presidential electors cast ballots for candidates who win the popular vote and do not instead switch candidates or abstain from voting.

“This is a critical step toward protecting the legitimacy of our free election process and preventing extreme partisanship from denying the will of the voters,” Sen. Dodd said. “We must ensure our chosen electors uphold their responsibilities and do not go rogue, threatening the underpinnings of our democracy. I thank the governor for signing this needed legislation.”

GOP escalates fight against citizen-led ballot initiatives

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Hundreds of thousands of people signed petitions this year backing proposed ballot initiatives to expand voting access, ensure abortion rights and legalize recreational marijuana in Arizona, Arkansas and Michigan.

Yet voters might not get a say because Republican officials or judges have blocked the proposals from the November elections, citing flawed wording, procedural shortcomings or insufficient petition signatures.

Chile rejects draft constitution in blow to leftist President Boric

Voters in Chile on Sunday rejected a progressive constitution that would have drastically changed the country.

Why it matters: It's a major blow to leftist President Gabriel Boric and his supporters who championed the draft text, which would have enshrined reproductive, education, housing and Indigenous rights.

Video fills in details on alleged Ga. election system breach

ATLANTA (AP) — Two months after the 2020 presidential election, a team of computer experts traveled to south Georgia to copy software and data from voting equipment in an apparent breach of a county election system. They were greeted outside by the head of the local Republican Party, who was involved in efforts by then-President Donald Trump to overturn his election loss.

A security camera outside the elections office in rural Coffee County captured their arrival. The footage also shows that some local election officials were at the office during what the Georgia secretary of state’s office has described as “alleged unauthorized access” of election equipment.

Delaware primary: Legislative races too close to call, low turnout, major upsets

With a significantly low voter turnout, Delaware’s primary election on Tuesday saw the defeat of controversial incumbent state Auditor Kathleen McGuiness to newcomer Democrat Lydia York, as well narrow races involving incumbent lawmakers, some of whom served in the legislature for decades.

The primary also included the return of President Joe Biden, who flew to his home to cast his vote.

New Hampshire's GOP Senate nominee Don Bolduc is breaking federal law by not disclosing his personal finances

New Hampshire's GOP Senate nominee Don Bolduc is breaking federal law by not disclosing his personal
finances

Don Bolduc, an Army veteran and one-time election denier who is also New Hampshire's Republican Senate nominee, is flouting a federal conflict-of-interest and transparency law by failing to submit details about his own finances in 2022, an Insider review of congressional financial filings indicates.

Bolduc, who won in New Hampshire's GOP Senate primary on September 13, will face off against Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan in November. Bolduc, who last submitted a candidate financial disclosure in 2021, has yet to file one for the 2022 calendar year, meaning voters cannot review details about Bolduc's most up-to-date income, investments, employment, and debts.

Bolduc should have submitted his latest disclosure by May 15, according to guidance from the US Senate Select Committee on Ethics. A congressional candidate could face an investigation or fine if they fail to file a statement, though officials rarely pursue such investigations.

Bolduc's campaign did not respond to Insider's requests for comment.

Trump, talking about a NYT story about Trump injecting himself into races, manages to humiliate J.D. Vance in passing.

"JD is kissing my ass, of course he wants my support!"

Then, after humiliating him, he makes him come up to the podium and show the audience how much he enjoyed it.

SMH..

In Ohio, Vance scrambles to ramp up campaign after mounting GOP criticism - WP
Although party strategists voice confidence Vance will still prevail, they say they fear he wasted precious time, requiring a financial bailout that limited resources for GOP candidates in other states

After winning the Republican nomination in May, Vance spent months running what many in the party say they saw as an ineffective campaign that lacked urgency and has forced him and outside allies to scramble, in a state that former president Donald Trump carried twice and has trended red in recent years.

On Saturday night, Vance tried to jump-start his candidacy in the competitive race by campaigning with Trump in Youngstown and tying his opponent to the president.

“There’s two Tims out there,” Vance said, a “D.C. Tim” who votes with President Biden and a “campaign Tim” who pretends to be a centrist. “We need to kick D.C. Tim to the curb,” he told a mostly full arena filled with American flags and “Save America!” signs.

Trump told the crowd on Saturday that “the entire MAGA movement” is behind Vance.

He seized on Ryan’s recent comments on MSNBC denouncing “extremists” in the GOP and saying “we’ve got to kill and confront that movement.” Ryan will “betray everything that you believe in," Trump said.
To regain his footing, Vance has bulked up his fundraising shop with staff who worked for his former GOP rivals, planned more public outings, including tent-pole events like the Trump rally, and according to a person familiar with the scheduling, a day of campaigning with Donald Trump Jr. in early October.

Vance has also attended a series of party dinners over the past few weeks and campaigned with Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio), according to party leaders who have seen him out. Like others interviewed for this story, the person familiar with his schedule spoke on the condition of anonymity to more openly discuss strategy.
Good. I hope Ryan backs him into the corner with these extremist associations, and makes him wear it.

Bipartisan group of senators announce deal to reform Electoral Count Act

Following months of negotiations, a bipartisan group of senators on Wednesday introduced two new bills meant to install new safeguards for the certification of presidential election results.

The reforms to the Electoral Count Act includes new protections for presidential elections and the transition of power, clarifying a contentious question in the White House in the lead-up to the certification of the election by Congress: could the vice president overturn the election?

Officials say DHS rejected plan to shield election officials from harassment: report

The Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) turned down a multimillion-dollar proposal by a federally funded nonprofit to protect election officials from harassment ahead of November’s midterms, CNN reported on Tuesday.

Citing multiple people familiar with the matter, the outlet reported the proposal would track foreign influence activity and increase resources for reporting misinformation and disinformation surrounding the midterm elections, but officials raised concerns about the initiative being seen as partisan.
