Conservative Talk Show Host Larry Elder Will Not Challenge California Governor Gavin Newson In 2022.

https://www.politico.com/states/califor ... 22-1403809.

Republican talk show host Larry Elder announced Tuesday he will not challenge Gov. Gavin Newsom in 2022 after winning the most votes of any candidate seeking to succeed Newsom in a failed recall attempt.

Elder’s exit immediately reorders the nascent field of Republicans seeking to deprive Newsom of a second term. While Elder energized conservative voters and quickly vaulted to the top of the field of recall candidates, his conservative positions were anathema to much of California’s electorate and helped Newsom frame the campaign as a battle against a Donald Trump-aligned extremist. Millions more Californians voted against the recall than for Elder.

Elder said in a statement that he would instead launch a political action committee focused on legislative races.

I ran for Governor because I wanted to make a difference,” Elder said. “While I may not know what the future holds for me politically, our campaign’s ability to attract millions of votes and millions of dollars in a very short time demonstrates we have a message that resonates with Americans, and I believe we can put that to good use.”

Newsom's defeat of Elder handed the Governor endless soundbites for his campaign next year.

No word from either John Cox (whom Newsom had already defeated in 2018 Governor's Race) or former San Diego California Mayor Kevin Falconer (lost in the recall) will seek to challenge Newsom.

Elder's departure leaves the California Republican Party without big name draw for June Primary. Which can effect down ballot races. Accusations of domestic violence against Elder dogged him in late days of the attempted recall of Governor Newsom.

Is Elder missing out on a grand way to steal millions from idiots who support racism and ignorance?

Has he not figured out how to steal campaign money the way the trump and kushner group did?

Former N.Y. Times Columnist Nick Kristoff Booted From Oregon Governor's Ballot.

https://www.huffpost.com/entry/former-n ... afe3b0041e.

Election officials in Oregon have decided that former New York Times journalist Nicholas Kristof has not lived in the state long enough to run for governor, though Kristof plans to appeal the decision.

Officials determined Kristof, a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner who worked as a columnist and foreign correspondent for the Times, had not been a “resident within this state” for the three years leading up to the 2022 gubernatorial election.

Hochul proposes State Voting Rights Act, expanded absentee voting

(WETM) – New York Governor Kathy Hochul is proposing an expansion of voting rights in New York through a new state-wide Voting Rights Act.

The Governor’s proposal would establish a state-level voting rights act that will enhance protections against voter suppression and vote dilution; establish new protections against voter intimidation and deception; improve language access for voters; and require boards of elections in jurisdictions with a history of civil rights violations to obtain pre-clearance for changes to election-related policies and practices.

Norfolk Democrat Jackie Glass wins special election for Virginia’s 89th House District

NORFOLK — Democrat Jackie Glass appeared poised to win a special election Tuesday to represent the 89th House District, a victory that would keep the historically Democratic seat in Norfolk blue even as the GOP is set to take control of Virginia’s House of Delegates.

The Associated Press hadn’t called the race as of 8:20 p.m., but Glass secured 75% of the vote with all but one precinct reporting, according to unofficial results Tuesday evening from the Virginia Department of Elections.

The Ohio Supreme Court Strikes Down State's Gerrymandered Congressional Map.

https://www.politico.com/news/2022/01/1 ... own-527116.

Ohio's state Supreme Court has struck down the state's new congressional map as a Republican gerrymander that violates the state constitution.

The ruling is a boon to Democrats, who could've held as few as two of the state's 15 House seats after the next election.

"When the dealer stacks the deck in advance, the house usually wins. That perhaps explains how a party that generally musters no more than 55 percent of the statewide popular vote is positioned to reliably win anywhere from 75 percent to 80 percent of the seats in the Ohio congressional delegation," state Supreme Court Justice Michael Donnelly wrote in the court's majority opinion. "By any rational measure, that skewed result just does not add up."

The court — which voted 4-3 to strike down the map, with Republican Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor joining the panel's three Democrats in the majority — ordered the GOP-controlled state legislature to draw a new map that "is not dictated by partisan considerations."

Democrats never gerrymander.
Except in states where they hold the majority.

No, it would be easy to do. First, the shape of the groups would have to be shaped correctly. Then you would have non-partisan organizations that put them together.

Maybe when we were kids but definitely not today. Some might be less partisan than others. But, at the end of the day all are partisan.

In California, the nation's largest Blue state, we did away with gerrymandering by having an independent redistricting commission. The commission is composed of five Democrats, five republicans, and four from neither major party. They redraw the Congressional districts, the State Assembly districts, the State Senate districts, and State Board of Equalization districts.

The commission was created as a result of voters passing Proposition 11 passing in 2008. As the commission's website states:
"The Commission must draw the district lines in conformity with strict, nonpartisan rules designed to create districts of relatively equal population that will provide fair representation for all Californians"
We Draw the Lines[/quote]

So far, it's worked well for California.
When you vote left, you vote right.
