Good to hear that both Fetterman and Van Hollen were treated so quickly and expect full recoveries.

North Carolina voters on Tuesday decided who will compete in one of this year’s critical U.S. Senate races, as Republican Rep. Madison Cawthorn hoped to withstand a cascade of negative press to win his party’s nomination for a second term in Congress.

Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman wins Democratic Senate primary, the AP says

John Fetterman, Pennsylvania's lieutenant governor, has won the state's Democratic primary for U.S. Senate, according to a race call from The Associated Press.

The 6-foot-9 Fetterman, who often wears shorts to campaign events and has the persona of an authentic anti-politician, topped Rep. Conor Lamb in the primary.

Charles Booker wins Democratic bid for Senate, will face Rand Paul in November

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Charles Booker won the Democratic bid for U.S. Senate, setting the stage for a showdown with Rand Paul in November.

Republican U.S. Sen. Rand Paul also won his party’s nomination Tuesday to seek a third term, setting up a campaign of contrasting agendas that pits his vision for limited government against Democratic challenger Charles Booker’s support for sweeping health care and anti-poverty programs.

Redistricting fight: Kansas Supreme Court reverses Ad Astra 2 injunction

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Two days after hearing oral arguments in a trio of combined cases challenging the Kansas legislature’s Ad Astra 2 map, the Kansas Supreme Court reversed a Wyandotte County District Court judge’s decision that declared the map unconstitutional.

According to a syllabus posted Wednesday morning summarizing the high court’s decision, the Ad Astra 2 map “is held not to violate the Kansas Constitution.”

Strange, ain't it, in the 2020 election republicans complained about mail-in ballots in Pennsylvania, giving Biden, and then they tried to change mail-in voting in the state. Now their Senate primary candidate will be determined by mail-in ballots.

New York’s hasty redistricting rewrite draws ire of locals

NEW YORK (AP) — New Yorkers pride themselves on the dynamism of their metropolis, where it can feel totally different on the next block, where tourists walking in Chinatown quickly find themselves in Little Italy, where a neighborhood can be a proxy for a lifestyle or worldview.

Figuring out the city’s complexities is tough even for locals — and complaints are pouring in claiming that the two outsiders redrawing New York’s congressional districts have bungled the job by linking and slicing communities they don’t understand.

.....Atnip laughed at the idea of people shipped in from Nashville. She was living in nearby Monterey when she lost her home and had to send her children to live with her parents. She has received some government help, but not enough to get her back on her feet, she said. At one point she got a housing voucher but couldn't find a landlord who would accept it. She and her new husband saved enough to finance a used car and were working as delivery drivers until it broke down. Now she's afraid they will lose the car and have to move to a tent, though she isn't sure where they will pitch it......

At least 357 sitting Republican legislators in closely contested battleground states have used the power of their office to discredit or try to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election
I cant get the link, dont have sub. THIS is how NOV will be a REAL PROBLEM that I wish we were preparing for. Elections means NOTHING if votes are not counted, if elections arent going to be certified. We have to vote and we also have to start TALKING about this.

FINALLY someone other than us on the sidelines says it
Rep. James Clyburn to the Washington Post: "The country is in danger of imploding. Democracy is in danger of disintegrating. And I don't know why people feel that this country is insulated from the historical trends ... Maybe autocracy is the future of the country."

Australian voters deliver strong message on climate, ending conservative government's 9-year rule

Brisbane, Australia (CNN) Australian voters have delivered a sharp rebuke to the center-right government, ending nine years of conservative rule, in favor of the center-left opposition that promised stronger action on climate change.

Australian Labor Party leader Anthony Albanese claimed victory Saturday, though it was unclear as counting continued if his party would have the 76 seats required to form a majority.

Good news and bad news about American views of the parties. Does the fact that a majority of Americans see GOP as hateful and extreme weigh more at election time than that a majority sees Dems as "weak"?

[link:https://www.cbsnews.com/news/republican ... 00-10aaa3a|
With midterm primaries helping set the direction for the Democratic and Republican parties, most Americans, including many of the parties' own voters, aren't terribly happy with the parties or what they're talking about. Given that Sunday's CBS News poll finds most aren't happy with the direction of the country either, the major political parties aren't providing much solace.

For starters, the Democratic Party — which controls Congress and the presidency — is not seen by a majority as either "effective" or "in touch," which are, no doubt, important measures for a party in power. The Democratic Party is more apt to be described as "weak," a label applied by a slight majority of Americans, than it is "strong."

The Republican Party, for its part, is described by a slight majority as "extreme," a term Americans apply to the GOP more so than to Democrats, though neither really escapes the label. Independents are more likely to call the GOP extreme. The GOP is described as "strong" more often than as "weak," but it is also described by Americans more often as "hateful" than as "caring" — by double digits.

much much more at link.....in depth polling
I sigh in your general direction.

New York House map spurs anger, chaos

A new set of U.S. House district lines finalized Friday has set off a mad scramble among some of the most powerful politicians in New York, where decades of simmering feuds and rivalries are emerging ahead of a high-stakes August primary.

The new maps will force several unprecedented high-stakes match-ups between prominent Democratic power players after a state Supreme Court judge in a Republican stronghold struck down maps passed by New York’s Democratic-controlled legislature in Albany and appointed a special master to draw new ones.

Henry Cuellar has narrow lead over Jessica Cisneros as early votes are tallied in South Texas Democratic primary runoff

As early votes rolled in, U.S. Rep. Henry Cuellar was in a tight race against his progressive Democratic primary challenger, attorney Jessica Cisneros.

In this race for the 28th congressional district, Cuellar, an anti-abortion moderate, held a 52-48% lead over Cisneros as results rolled in. As expected, she dominated the vote in Bexar County, while their mutual home of Webb County returned ballots heavily in favor of the incumbent.

In 2000, Henry Cuellar endorsed Bush over Gore, he was Rick Perry’s Secretary of State, he has an A rating with the NRA & is anti-choice. Dem leadership went all out to campaign for him over a progressive woman.

He’s currently up by less than 200 votes. Shameful.

Michigan election bureau says 2 leading Republican candidates for governor filed fraudulent signatures, disqualifying them
https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/m ... fying-them

[snip]

“At this point, the Bureau does not have reason to believe that any specific candidates or campaigns were aware of the activities of fraudulent-petition circulators,” staff wrote.

[snip][end]

So, the elections board is saying many of the signatures are fraudulent and invalid, which would invalidate many candidates for the gubernatorial R primary ...

They have not yet said (which doesn't mean it won't be eventually determined) that any candidate deliberately encouraged this fraud (as opposed to the people they hired to gather the signatures doing it themselves) ... that could lead to criminal charges.
