2022 Elections Thread
Re: 2022 Elections Thread
Good timing to get the word out before the midterms
New York police call for vigilance at midterm elections over extremist threat
The New York Police Department has called for "elevated vigilance" ahead of the U.S. midterm elections over the threat of potential extremist attacks on targets including polling sites, according to media reports.
An internal NYPD bulletin warned that "violent extremists" may target voting sites, poll workers, political rallies, and election officials, reported CNN on Thursday. The news channel added that there were currently "no credible threats" known to police.

Qualifications mean nothing if you are a con, literally nothing.
Fun Fact: Chuck Grassley was born closer to James K. Polk's administration than to Biden's
Qualifications mean nothing if you are a con, literally nothing.
I sigh in your general direction.

If this holds true, I guess we (American democracy) will be done and who will be to blame?

We know if younger people do vote, it is 70-30 democratic vs republican. But if they see no reason to vote, then we are done.Young voters MIA as Dem base flocks to vote early
Early voting rates among young voters have dropped dramatically since 2020 compared to other groups.

His policy positions do not differ from your mentality in any way, so there is no reason for you to age-bait him.
Politically, both of you are from the same generation as the Proud Boys, Steve Bannon, Donald Trump, Jesse Helms, Strom Thurmond, and these other violent conservative white males.

I didn't want it to get to this point, but it is.
When I and others and yourself were yelling about how bad this would get, 6 yrs ago, we/I got yelled at by a few here and tons at DU.
They were all wrong, all of them. But still a bunch of them say that there is a limit to how bad you can speak of them. BANGING HEAD EMOTICON here.
One of the nicest to MAGA early on was Dean Obeidallah on XM, even though his life was threatened by them. I tweeted to him all the time STOP being nice to them, they want you dead! About a year ago he stopped and agreed with me.
And as YOU continually point out, their moderate friends like those here are JUST as dangerous.
I sigh in your general direction.

I didn't, either.
Well..we were wrong about one thing: that the average American, including a ton of liberals, have a better nature to appeal to.When I and others and yourself were yelling about how bad this would get, 6 yrs ago, we/I got yelled at by a few here and tons at DU.

This is also where the strategists of Civil Rights movments are wrong. Seeing those little kids get dogs and waterhoses turned on them was a turn on.
Like the women and girls in Iran right now, who are trying to shame their fascist, totalitarian government by showing the world just how brutal they are, only a few people GAF.
As MLK said, so-called moderates are worse than the Klan, because they allow the Klan to thrive and facilitate everything they do with their silence and cowardice. In the present day, they admonish the targets of state violence to be civil to killer cops, and the rest of us to be nice to our oppressors.
It also never fails: it's typically the so-called moderates wagging their fingers at the people with their faces in the hot pavement to smile and beg for killer cops to treat them nicely. Hey, it's not THEM who have the knee of the state on their neck.

Re: 2022 Elections Thread
If we've learned anything, it's that it's a deadly mistake to confront power directly. This is why I get so upset about the current mess in this country. One side gets it that the key is not who has the guns and the bombs, but who has the means of information and is able to define the world in their terms to the majority who are more interested in putting food on the table, staying inside when it's snowing, and avoiding people who wish them harm.
Unfortunately, that side is not the one we are on. Lefties at one point after the Ray Gun disaster were more conscious that the game was won by who convinces the most people, not who had the guns and bombs, but generations change and it got pissed away by the hedonists who considered politics a dirty and unfulfilling waste of time. Conviction on the right, plugging away year after year at seizing the means of information, sculpting the country's political vocabulary, etc would win the game by attrition. It trumped, pun intended, apathy. It always does.
There's a chance if people get hip and mobilize from the bottom up, while keeping out of the power structure's gun sights. Getting people hip is the hard part. We're not very good at it. I learned that the hard way.

Colorado increases penalties for election breaches after 2020 election
Colorado officials say the state is better prepared to prevent security failures during the midterms after two successful pro-Trump election breaches related to the 2020 election.
Why it matters: Beyond the threats to election workers and disruption from extremist groups, the election tampering is more serious and came from county clerks who acted as rogue agents or pawns of former President Trump's claims of voter fraud.

Our country was set up as a representative republic which is why it has survived for so long.
If we allowed a highly populated area or region have control over the rest of the nation it would leave people living in probably 80pct of the country no political voice.
There is no way people would stand for that and in a short period of time look at other options.

Re: 2022 Elections Thread
In 2016 the total number of votes for Democratic candidates was 180,000,000 and for republican candidates it was 168,000,000. So a difference of 12,000,000 votes. In California it was 29,000,000 for Democratic candidates and 9,000,000 for republican candidates. So a difference of 20,000,000 on the Democratic side. So statistically the remaining 49 states (53 states if your Joe Biden) have 8,000,000 more republican votes.

No, this country was set up as a whites-rule oligarchy based on genocide, slavery, and exploitation of immigrants.
Sez the person with the 3/5ths Clause heritage. If we allowed a highly populated area or region have control over the rest of the nation it would leave people living in probably 80pct of the country no political voice.

I'm sure The GOP & Putin must be thrilled again. :problem:
Netanyahu holds lead to win election, as almost all of votes counted
Former prime minister and Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu is poised to become Israel's next prime minister, according to the counting of almost all of the ballots. By Wednesday afternoon, Netanyahu held his lead with more than 80 percent of the votes counted across the country.
Arab party Balad was originally said to be close to crossing the threshold but by Wednesday afternoon that option seemed to dissipate. Had it happened, Netanyahu's bloc would have potentially dropped to 60 seats, one short of a coalition majority. Likud had sent an urgent letter to the police commissioner on Tuesday night demanding that allegations of voter fraud in the Arab sector be immediately investigated.
