I'm depressed

Post by ZoWie »

Ukraine is the last straw. I can't keep the times from taking away all the joy in my life. Two years ago, I was on top of the world. Now, I feel as if it's all gone down the shitter.

Ideas?

Yes. Seek help from a professional.

Depression is not your fault and it can get much, much worse if left untreated.

If professional help isn't an option then I would suggest finding a local or online support group that you can share your thoughts with on a regular basis.

Living under a shroud of sadness isn't something a person can tolerate for long. No matter how strong you are.

Get angry instead.

I am very upset, depressed. But the problems, almost ALL of them can be traced DREICTLY to rightwingers, GOP, trump, putin, etc.

Name a problem we face that they are not making worse or causing, I cant think of many.

Stress relief. I try to limit my exposure to the news media reporting as they tend to focus more on making you feel some way, I try to recognize when they are just blathering on and putting all kinds of images and sounds voice tones and insinuations and postures but really are not giving any new or useful information they just have us stewing in it and in that feeling of trauma. Its a bit like putting hot steel in cold water it freezes the inner structure at the heated level which makes it brittle, needs to be heated back up and cooled down slower to restore the strength. Likewise our inner structure can become all jagged and brittle too, need to bring ours back in similar ways relieve the stresses and strains.

Thanks for all the ideas. I don't think it's clinical depression. I had that once too and it felt completely different. This time it seemed to start with the isolation caused by covid, and then ever since it seems like everything else has worked in the same direction, like a stripping away of everything that made life fun, one thing at a time. Like staring at nothing all day long.

Probably talking to a psychotherapist might indeed be helpful. I'm sure they'd tell me to get out more (wearing a mask) so that's the first thing I'll try.

I've already given up news media. Indeed, it's too manipulative. They don't report the news, they try to scare you with their skilled editing of same, so you'll get hooked on their product out of fear and bump up whatever metrics attract advertisers. The TV went first, then the newspaper, now it's hard even to look at twitter.

Going to New York would probably do wonders, but then there's that covid problem again. With my luck, I'd get there just in time for a major outbreak. Seems like we have new sub-variants lurking again. You know, that is likely my problem. I can't make plans.

Can you describe the difference? From this and clinical depression?

I am sincerely interested in your answer.

I'm sleeping fine, I don't feel sluggish or under par, I don't feel like anything's wrong, I don't feel that dark thing, none of that. I'm actually feeling the best physically that I have in years. My body's working great. There's just some kind of lack of things for it to do.

I think mourning better describes it. There have been deaths in the family, all this covid stuff, and of course everything external is in severe decline. There's a real sense of loss here.

None of us, to my knowledge, on this board are qualified to know what you are feeling or to give you advice. That said, I can only tell you the rare times I feel like you do I find relieve listening to babies laughing. I know it sounds silly but the laughter of a baby somehow lifts my spirits. I'll take a walk or go to a park where children are playing, read a book while listening to them play and at some point I'll hear a baby or toddler laughing. For some reason, a baby's laughter has magic. I remember being on a flight and there was a baby aboard I figured I be hearing it crying. During the flight, with the drone of the engine and the voices of passengers in my ear I heard the baby laughing. Almost immediately, the voices in the plane went silent as everyone listened to this baby laughing.

I know these are tough times for us all but I know this will all pass and be a memory and that's what I look forward to.

Take care.

im feeling quite the same. imagine how they feel in ukraine.
not clinical depression, i do find fun laffs and joy when im in certain places.

the rest of the time seems half hearted.
ive talked with a few in the field and realize i sound just like 300mil other mericans who arent raging or driving trucks
thru cities, just people trying to live and get on with things yet being stepped on by a large..boot?...cloud?...FB/metaverse??
the oppressive nature of what is now merican lives is affecting everyone.

met some strangers who quite quickly went off on how the handful of RWG have taken it all leaving the rest of humanity
with very little.
i was surprized to hear this So Quickly from strangers traveling but they had been traveling the con-try and they
had Seen the con-try of late. they were quite shocked.
these were decently living anglo widows who were so disgusted with "capitalism" and the effect its had on...Everything.
giving it all to a handful and leaving the rest of humanity to fuk off.

im ok then i take a hike and see things i never dreamed id see. i stroke and pet the young Pinion trees who's lives will
be short but for now they are gorgeous and i thank them for being here at all.

my mood will be ok then ill see a deer and my eyes tear. being in the forest has a diff meaning, sensation, now.
its more sadness than joy and pleasure.
very hard to live with that.

impossible to have faith in ..gov, the ruling powers, now that its all falling down.
media elites just want money and the public gets game shows, barely clothed butts and more game shows.

kids bought by pervs on the many and growing net sites like FB and tick-tok and no one knows what to do!!
oh how do we control this how do we protect our innocent kids from their phones and perv innernets.

6yr olds watching perv sex on their toy phones. yah, go merica. sellsellsellsellsellsellsell.

just know your not alone zow. and get outside and drive that damn car.

I have to agree with everything there, including the part about the car. The hell with $6.50 gas, I can't do anything else. I might as well blow the money, further enrich oil kleptocrats, and have a little fun.

Yes everyone seems to react in their own way, but 90 or so per cent of the time that still seems to be an emotion similar to some kind of a great loss. That's what it is, really, a loss. Life as we know it stopped. Friends became distant. People died, for whatever reasons, and you couldn't even have proper funerals for them.

We were to told to stick it out and everything would be better soon, but now that's two years ago. The virus feels like losing a war. The defenses don't do much, we lose all the battles, and the people who fraternize with the enemy get all the attention and financial donations. Then everywhere else you look, something else seems to be just as hopeless. The climate is especially depressing, and we're sure not doing much about it.

Then on top of that we get a real war, for reasons that sound more like the 19th century.

My past experience has been that periods like this incubate political change, and the recoveries can be an improvement on what was lost.

(not a clue why italics arent working. smh.)

im always meeting new people on the Rio walk. often see the same folks hiking their dogs, we all stop and chat.
everyone is very nice pleasant and friendly. we smile laugh tell dog or land or hawk and crow stories since skies
have lots of them near this remaining water.

its Nice Not knowing who they vote for. its a relief. often something comes out and you learn where they lean
and most often it is Not rw.
these are hiking dog walking running cycling folks. not 2legs truck driving thru cities screeching stupid shit.
which is a relief.
these are 2legs who heard some guy in DC call most mericans "losers"...they didnt forget that.

i think getting out under the sky somehow somewhere meeting some new 2legs with smiles or frowns or
energy..helps. id say a lot but running into a sadist-ite can be real disappointing, confronting the cognitive dissonance
in real life, in person. most rwrs dont get out in the sun. mebbe they change their oil from driving so much in circles screeching.

getting out by yourself, not with a group or social event, just out there on the planet...helps imo. if you get to chat with
someone else enjoying the same that is good. say hi and chat.
theres also the idea of...see it now .

we've already got fire issues near daily. have local meeting coming up about "evacuations" how to where to etc.

rich white men have stripped the planet of its native veg leaving it to dust bowl drought and loss.
meanwhile they live on yachts. surely they keep their sex lives on those same yachts a la epstein
who taught them well.

i mean...[i}they have it made, dont they?[/i]
sleep well knowing you fucked the entire planet up. sweet.
i know.. blame the poor people.
sorry for digression.

its important to get out. do some thing. walk.

if getting Out Side is all you can do then do that.

peace bro.

We take long daily walks.

The number of dog walkers in this neighborhood borders on remarkable.

There are some nice people. We do have a family of hawks, the bird kind, and there's quite a bit of interest in watching them doing what hawks do.

Hard to tell the drumpfers in this part of LA. Someone who looks normal can prove to be one of..... THEM. Clothes don't tell and hair styles don't tell. It's best just to stay away from politics etc..

For a while they were the ones who lost it if they saw you wearing a mask, as if it was any of their friggin business, but now everyone's taken them off, even though there's no reason to do so what with new variants coming every other month. In general, people have declared covid over. Covid is still there, you can still get it and die, but it's over. The human capacity for denial borders on infinite.

I hate ants. We got an ant infestation about a year ago so I hired the local pest control to come every two months to deal with it, on my regular guys last visit he said something about COVID and vaccines and I mentioned when the idiot said something about shining a light inside the body or something and my pest guy who I rely on said "all politicians say stuff like that."

Sigh

Obviously he's a trumper and now I'm wondering if he's going to do his job properly or not and whether I want him on my property or not. Right after that I noticed at him staring at my T-shirt to read what it said, that day it was a Star Wars shirt, but most days it is something political. He wasn't interested in what it said until he heard me criticize dumbshit. He was clearly looking to see if it was political.

I may have to change companies.

If I am not a hypocrite, I guess I have to.

This might sound stupid but buy an electric bike and take long rides in parks and on trails.
Mine only cost $750 and I find it is as much bike as I need.
Just riding it along my road around 20mph puts so much clean and fresh air into your lungs you will feel amazing.
Plus you still get a workout from the limited peddling you do.

I still prefer my 24-gear Specialized bike. The advantages of pedaling a bike is it cleans out your lungs, strengthens your heart, lowers your blood pressure, and increases your endurance. I also like the feeling from the endorphins produces.

there seems to be a hole now....a hole where some kinds of life once lived.

for me its the environment. every day seeing what is left. what hasnt yet been destroyed. all that was taken
by RWG corps who have abused merica to the point of failure, of ceasing, of falling apart, falling down, crashing.
unable to recover its food or water. meanwhile building more and more hyper subdivs for 2legs who dont seem to
notice any "issues" of today.

its hilarious really. just shop!!! dont mind the fires floods storms losses! the RWG are doing fine off you so no worries, eh.

zow im not sure its depression. i think its reality. seeing it, noticing it, realizing it. confronting it.
yes that is depressing but its not "depression". its reality. there is a diff.
depression comes from denying reality. ignoring it. vs admitting to it.

as well id say trauma and loss is causing a lot of issues for many humans as has happened in every prior civilization
and many current existing civs.

when you see trees dying its causes an empty feeling inside. unless you live on concrete whereas you dont know shit then.

For me the hole is covid, and the triumph of bullshit over science. Of course, I also notice what we're doing to the only planet we have, and that doesn't help.

People matter most, but trees are good for people, and they matter too.

Outside the population centers, our forest management needs work. Lots of work. Work and struggle. It might not look like critical infrastructure, but it is. No forests = no people. Stop the Koch Brothers. Let's stop killing the oceans while we're at it. More management, less mindless all out assault on nature. And yes, cut greenhouse gases before they cut us.

I think it was Ghandi who said to think globally and act locally. More attention for trees, life, and ordinary people. More attention for the whole planetary system. Less for self-infatuated kleptocrats, entertainment stars, and wannabe world rulers.

the only "fix" for the forests, or one time forests, is more snow cold and any rain.
since that isnt going to happen planting anything seems pointless since no one is going to pour rain on the seedlings.
some will grow for a while, the heat will get them via numerous drying ways before they get too big.
this land was covered in snow trees which cant grow now.

ive got two trees with a 2" wide pipe in the ground on the high side, i pour water in the 3ft pipe and it slowly leaks out to
water the tree roots. we are going to do more trees like this, many people are. it wont stop much but it will help what
is here.

how do you water a dried out burned out dirt mountainside.

this lost lack of resources has happened time and again thru history, this is not the first time.
learning how it happens, learning That it happens, hasnt seemed important to moderns.
oh they sell books about it but that doesnt replace the water, seeds, foods, for a non stop pop.

That's the point. Deforestation is very disruptive, not to mention dispiriting on a deep human level, and it's never a good idea to accelerate the process.

I won't blame the decline of 21st century civilization on it, since we did that to ourselves in many other ways too. What I will note is that the timing of our putting megatons of burned carbon into the atmosphere coincided with a thousand-year dry cycle, making it apparent that we've reinforced a natural process in a damaging manner.

Now we deal or die.
