A’s announcer says apparent use of on-air slur was accidental

(KRON) — Oakland A’s announcer Glen Kuiper apologized after he appeared to utter a slur on-air while calling the team’s game against the Kansas City Royals Friday night.

Kuiper was referencing the Negro League Baseball Museum in Kansas City, and says his words “didn’t come out quite the way I wanted it to.” The word that came out of his mouth sounded like the “n-word.”

Colombian ex-footballer Osoria arrested for drug trafficking

Former footballer Diego Leon Osorio, who played for Colombia's national team in the 1990s, has been arrested for drug trafficking for the third time, police said on Friday.

The former left-back was attempting to board a flight to Madrid, Spain, on April 8, from an airport near Medellin "with 1,849 grams of cocaine hydrochloride," police said in a message sent to the media.

I "met" Baio in the early 2000s. Well, we were at the same event. His wife, Renee Sloan, was the daughter of a Tennessee Union rep, and they came to his retirement party, which I was video taping.

I don't know why he came to the party, he was a real jerk to everyone there. He was obnoxious, and got VERY drunk. His daughter seemed to love her dad, and she spoke. But Biao didn't seem to like him, and he didn't seem to like Baio. But I'll say this much for him; it appears that they are still married.

This is what happens when conglomerates are not regulated.

Paramount Cuts 25 Percent of Staff From TV Networks, MTV News Shutting Down

The cuts keep coming.

Chris McCarthy’s swath of Paramount Global is laying off 25 percent of its domestic team today. The reduction comes on the heels of integrating Showtime into his cable and streaming purview, which will be consolidated into two functions going forward. There are “studios,” which now combine Showtime with MTV Entertainment Studios, and “networks,” which will merge nine separate teams into one portfolio group. The majority of the cuts are being felt by the latter group, with certain units, including MTV News, being shut down altogether. Paramount Global had 24,500 employees companywide as of the end of 2022.

Largest U.S. employer seeks to ban salary history questions in job interviews

In an effort to close discriminatory pay gaps, the largest employer in the nation — the federal government — wants to ban salary history questions from its own job interview process.

Why it matters: Relying on a job applicant's current salary to determine their pay offer can perpetuate unfair pay practices, scholars and gender equity advocates have long argued, effectively anchoring some candidates to lower wages throughout their careers.

We really need criminal justice system badly.

Court throws out conviction of former Cuomo aide

The Supreme Court on Thursday reversed the conviction of Joseph Percoco, the manager of former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s re-election campaign who was sentenced to six years in prison after he took money in exchange for helping to facilitate a real estate development. Percoco was convicted of violating a federal fraud law that makes it a crime to deprive members of the public of the intangible right to “honest services.” But in a unanimous ruling, the justices threw out Percoco’s conviction, holding that the jury instructions used to convict him were too vague.

The ruling was the latest in a series of cases, dating back more than a decade, in which the justices have narrowed the reach of federal public-corruption laws.

Executive fired from TikTok's Chinese owner says Beijing had access to app data in termination suit

A former executive fired from TikTok’s parent company ByteDance made a raft of accusations against the tech giant Friday, including that it stole content from competitors like Instagram and Snapchat, and served as a “propaganda tool” for the Chinese government by suppressing or promoting content favorable to the country’s interests.

The allegations were made in a complaint Friday by Yintao Yu, the head of engineering for ByteDance’s U.S. operations from August 2017 to November 2018, as part of a wrongful termination lawsuit filed earlier this month in San Francisco Superior Court. Yu claims he was fired for disclosing “wrongful conduct” he saw at the company.

Updating our inactive account policies

People want the products and services they use online to be safe and secure. Which is why we have invested in technology and tools to protect our users from security threats, like spam, phishing scams and account hijacking.

Even with these protections, if an account hasn’t been used for an extended period of time, it is more likely to be compromised. This is because forgotten or unattended accounts often rely on old or re-used passwords that may have been compromised, haven't had two factor authentication set up, and receive fewer security checks by the user. Our internal analysis shows abandoned accounts are at least 10x less likely than active accounts to have 2-step-verification set up. Meaning, these accounts are often vulnerable, and once an account is compromised, it can be used for anything from identity theft to a vector for unwanted or even malicious content, like spam.

Communications director for Rep. George Santos resigns

Naysa Woomer, the communications director for embattled Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.), has resigned, Scripps News has learned.

The departure of Woomer, a prominent Republican communications adviser, is the latest in a string of bad news for Santos, who was indicted on 13 counts, including fraud and money laundering, last week by Department of Justice officials.

Associate Justice Michael Morgan announced on Twitter Thursday morning that he will not run for re-election to retain his seat on the state Supreme Court.

Kyle Dubas not returning as Maple Leafs general manager

The Toronto Maple Leafs have "parted ways" with Kyle Dubas and he will not return as general manager, the team announced on Friday.

Dubas’ exit, following the team’s second-round exit from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, ends his five-year run as general manager of the Maple Leafs – a stretch that had lots of regular-season success but consistent playoff woes.

Oscar Mayer renames Wienermobile to Frankmobile
For the first time in nearly 100 years, the iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile has a new name: the Frankmobile.

Kraft Heinz Company announced the name change Wednesday to celebrate the brand’s “100% Beef Franks” as the company debuts a new recipe.

“The Wienermobile is a beloved American icon that has been sparking smiles and driving craveability for our iconic delicious wieners for nearly 100 years,” Associate Brand Manager Stephanie Vance said in a news release. “This summer, it’s time to highlight another fan-favorite: our delicious 100% Beef Franks.”

The Wienermobile, a 27-foot long, 6-ton hot dog on wheels, hit the road in 1936 and became one of the most iconic, and noticeable, vehicles across the United States.

Another move that was uneeded and will probably cause people to get mad.
I heard that budweiser had moved their advertising and some other offices from St Louis aka the Midwest and replaced ad executives with people from Manhattan aks not the Midwest.

People in Manhattan are as clueless about the Midwest as we are about Manhattan. Which is what lead to them losing over 20pct of their market share
