Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe out at right-wing org

MAMARONECK, N.Y. (AP) — Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe said in a speech posted online Monday that he has been removed as the right-wing group’s leader.

In remarks that appeared to have been made at a Project Veritas’ office, O’Keefe said the board had stripped him of all decision-making. The move comes after the board reportedly put him on leave from his role as chairman amid complaints about his treatment of staff at the organization, which is known for using hidden cameras and hiding identities to try to ensnare journalists in embarrassing conversations and to reveal supposed liberal bias.

It would be ironic if his departure was caused by some group who infiltrated Project Veritas and filmed him admitting to deliberately editing his "undercover" videos to mislead/misinform his viewers.

The Atlanta Hawks announced on Tuesday that they have fired head coach Nate McMillan. Assistant coach Joe Prunty is expected to take over in the interim, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.

McMillan, 58, has been the head coach in Atlanta since the 2020-21 season. The 29-30 Hawks will come out of the All-Star break in eighth place in the Eastern Conference. While Prunty will lead the team in the interim, the Hawks will conduct a search for a full-time head coach with ex-Jazz coach Quin Snyder, Bucks assistant Charles Lee and Warriors assistant Kenny Atkinson under consideration, according to the Wojnarowski.

Biden declines to veto Apple Watch ban

President Biden has upheld an International Trade Commission (ITC) ruling that could result in an import ban on the Apple Watch, according to AliveCor, a medical device company that has accused Apple of patent infringement.

The California startup said it was informed of Biden’s decision by the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) on Tuesday. It’s the first ITC ruling against Apple to clear presidential review.

Southern Baptists oust Saddleback Church over woman pastor

The Southern Baptist Convention on Tuesday ousted its second-largest congregation — Saddleback Church, the renowned California megachurch founded by pastor and best-selling author Rick Warren — for having a woman pastor.

The vote by the convention's Executive Committee culminates growing tension between the nation's largest Protestant denomination — which officially opposes women as pastors — and a congregation whose story has been one of the biggest church-growth successes of modern times.

Obama praises woman behind 'Fired up' chant as she retires

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Former President Barack Obama, marking the retirement of the woman credited with popularizing the chant “Fired up, ready to go!” that epitomized his campaigns, says her energy played a key role in lifting his spirits and his candidacy.

“It was early in my campaign, and I wasn’t doing that good,” Obama recalled in a video provided to The Associated Press by the Obama Foundation, harking back to a 2007 campaign stop in Greenwood, South Carolina, on a dreary, rainy day.

Gigi Sohn withdraws her nomination for President Joe Biden’s FCC

Gigi Sohn has withdrawn her nomination to serve on the Federal Communications Commission, as first reported by The Washington Post Tuesday.

Sohn, a former FCC official and longtime public interest advocate, was nominated as a third Democratic commissioner by President Joe Biden in October 2021. But over the last 16 months, a brutal and oftentimes bad-faith lobbying campaign has continued to block her nomination. That’s left the FCC with a 2–2 partisan split that has blocked many of Biden’s goals for the agency, including reinstating net neutrality rules.
