Southland Conference umpire suspended indefinitely for retaliating against player with outrageously bad call

You've seen bad calls, and you've seen egotistical umpires, but you've probably never seen them combine like they did Friday. And there were consequences.

In the ninth inning of a game between Mississippi Valley State and New Orleans, outfielder Davon Mims went to the plate as Mississippi Valley State's final out. After two pitches, things got weird.

Ford won’t seek reelection after 2 decades

Denise Ford, who has served as a Nassau County legislator for 20 years, has decided against running for reelection this fall, she said last week.

The 72-year-old Ford was elected to the legislature in 2003 shortly after her husband, Harry, a 27-year veteran of the New York City Fire Department, was killed in a fire in Queens on Father’s Day in 2001. She’s an enrolled Democrat but caucuses with the Republicans.

State voter fraud system fractures as Republicans opt out

ATLANTA (AP) — Election officials from states enrolled in a bipartisan effort to ensure accurate voter lists decided Friday against making rule changes that had been pushed by Republicans amid conspiracies targeting the group, prompting more GOP-leaning states to leave.

The Electronic Registration Information Center, known as ERIC, has a record of combating voter fraud by identifying those who have died or moved between states. Yet it also has drawn suspicion among some Republican state leaders, after a series of online stories surfaced last year questioning the center's funding and purpose.

LAHORE, Pakistan (AP) — Pakistani police stormed former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s residence in the eastern city of Lahore on Saturday and arrested 61 people amid tear gas and clashes between Khan’s supporters and police, officials said.

He said they blocked the lanes around Khan’s residence with concrete blocks, felled trees, tents and a parked truck.

Why Ferris State football coach Tony Annese was suspended over players smoking cigars

Save Ferris.

Division II Ferris State (Big Rapids, Mich.) won the national championship in December, with head coach Tony Annese's Bulldogs hoisting a second-consecutive DII trophy. While a second natty is great reason for celebration, the NCAA broke it up like cops at a lengthy frat party.

Mississippi news anchor Brittany Noble-Jones was fired for saying “fo shizzle my nizzle” on air, a slang term popularized by rapper Snoop Dogg. She had been with the station for 20 years and claimed she faced discrimination.

This incident highlights the need for diversity and inclusion in newsrooms, and the debate over using slang terms in professional settings. Some say it’s unprofessional, while others believe it’s important to acknowledge cultural contributions.
