Florida man sentenced in death threat to Minnesota Rep. Omar

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — A federal judge sentenced a former Trump supporter to three years of probation and a $7,000 fine for sending an email threatening to kill Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and three other congresswomen.

David George Hannon, 67, also must undergo mental and substance abuse treatment and have no contact with Omar or Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, according to a report in the Tampa Bay Times.

I don't care about party affiliation, which religion you belong to, your ethnicity/nationality, sex/gender, etc..., making threats is terrorism and if you do it expect to pay the price.

Former Theranos COO is guilty of federal fraud

(CNN Business) Ramesh "Sunny" Balwani, the former COO of failed blood testing startup Theranos and ex-boyfriend of founder Elizabeth Holmes, was found guilty of defrauding investors and patients.

Jury deliberations stretched for four full days following a lengthy trial that got underway in March with opening statements. A jury of five men and seven women determined that Balwani had defrauded both patients and investors, finding him guilty on all 12 charges he faced, which included ten counts of federal wire fraud and two counts of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Billionaire Elon Musk wants to end his $44 billion deal to buy Twitter, according to a letter sent by a lawyer on his behalf to the company’s chief legal officer Friday.

But Twitter’s board chairman Bret Taylor said the company is still committed to closing the deal at the agreed-upon price and plans to pursue legal action to enforce the agreement.

Zelenskiy sacks Ukraine's envoy to Germany, other ambassadors

KYIV, July 9 (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Saturday that he had dismissed several of Kyiv's senior envoys abroad, including the country's outspoken ambassador to Germany.

Zelenskiy announced the sacking of Ukraine's ambassadors to Germany, India, the Czech Republic, Norway and Hungary and said new candidates were being readied for the positions.

ISIS leader in Syria killed in drone strike - U.S. military

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The leader of Islamic State in Syria, who is one of the top five leaders of the militant group, has been killed in a U.S. air strike, the U.S. military said on Tuesday.

In a statement, U.S Central Command said Maher al-Agal had been killed in the drone strike in northwest Syria and a close associate of his was seriously injured.

Olympic silver medalist Kim Glass says that she was attacked by a random man with a pipe while walking on a Los Angeles street.

Glass shared video on Instagram speaking about the attack that shows multiple facial injuries including fractures around her right eye and cuts that required stitches. (Warning, the video seen here and included above shows graphic injuries.) Glass' right eye was swollen shut, and she had a gash on the bridge of her nose.

Blue Jays fire manager Charlie Montoyo

The Toronto Blue Jays fired manager Charlie Montoyo on Wednesday with the team in the midst of a rough 2-9 stretch since July 2.

Montoyo, who was in the final year of his original deal, signed a one-year contract extension in April, which also included club options for 2024 and ‘25. Montoyo finished with a 236-236 record across four seasons as the Blue Jays’ skipper.

The UN Security Council has voted unanimously to ban some weapon sales to Haiti, rocked by deadly gang violence.

Venue cancels right-wing speaking tour event in New York following pushback

An event backed by former Trump national security adviser Michael Flynn that was set to host a range of right-wing speakers next month has been canceled following pushback from the local community, according to the venue that was hosting the event.

Scott Donaldson, the owner of Main Street Armory in Rochester, N.Y., said in a release on Monday that he decided to cancel an event of the ReAwaken America Tour following an “outpouring of concern” from the community.

Desus Nice and the Kid Mero, the comedy duo best known for the Bodega Boys podcast and late night TV show Desus & Mero, have broken up. The show’s official Twitter account announced that the duo “will be pursuing separate creative endeavors moving forward” and that Desus & Mero would not be returning to Showtime.

The fourth season of Desus and Mero aired weekly on Showtime earlier this year—previous seasons aired two episodes each week. Since moving from the short-lived Viceland network in 2019, the pair made more than 170 episodes, featuring guests such as Noname, Lil Nas X, and Vince Staples; the last aired June 23. The duo’s first show, Desus vs. Mero, aired in 2013 on ComplexTV. Desus Nice and the Kid Mero started the Bodega Boys podcast in 2015.

NBA fines Lacob $500K for his luxury tax system comments

OAN officially dropped by Verizon, its last major carrier

Verizon is set to drop the right-wing One America News Network (OAN) from its channel lineup after the network and company failed to reach an agreement on a new contract.

Verizon said in a statement to The Hill that it will no longer have the rights to OAN after July 31, and the network will be removed from the television lineup.

The FCC is cracking down on 'auto warranty' robocalls

Washington (CNN Business) US telecom providers will now be required to block millions of illegal robocalls a day advertising extended vehicle warranties, the Federal Communications Commission said Thursday, taking aim at a group of individuals accused of sending more than 8 billion such messages since 2018.

Thursday's order by the FCC requires voice providers to stop carrying calls the agency has linked to 13 individuals and six companies, mostly based in Texas and California but also in such far-flung places as Hungary.
