The NFL ends the Pro Bowl as we know it. Instead of a "football" game, it will be a flag football game and a weeklong skills competition.
The NFL is replacing the Pro Bowl with weeklong skills competitions and a flag football game, The Associated Press has learned.

The new event will replace the full-contact showcase started in 1951. It will be renamed “The Pro Bowl Games” and will feature AFC and NFC players showcasing their football and non-football skills in challenges over several days. The 2023 Games will be held in Las Vegas, and the flag football game at Allegiant Stadium is Sunday, Feb. 5.

Peyton Manning and his Omaha Productions company will help shape programming and promote the event’s content throughout the week. Manning, a 14-time Pro Bowl pick during his Hall of Fame career, will provide his perspective and will also be a part of the coaching staff for flag game.

It's good the NFL is changing the Pro Bowl. In the last 20-years it hasn't really been worth watching because the players weren't playing all-out like they would on their team. Also, the game posed too much of a chance of a career ending injury for the players.

Wise decision except the flag game. A running back from the falcons lost his career when injured in a beach game a few decades back

Alameda County removes 47 deputies' firearms and badges after psych evaluation audit

A very distressing report released Monday revealed that 47 Alameda County Sheriff’s deputies were removed from service on Friday, Sept. 23. Since the agency has roughly 1,000 active officers, this means that nearly 5% of the active police force suddenly did not have law enforcement powers. The former officers’ firearms and badges were taken from them. They will retain their benefits and salary as they are officially on “restricted desk duties.” KTVU reported that this seemingly sudden move was the result of failed psychological exams the deputies had taken—dating back to 2016.

A letter obtained by the media outlet that was sent to those put on leave showed that these deputies received a “Not Suited” classification to serve as a peace officer in California as a result of their tests. The fact is that 2022 minus 2016 equals six years; the reason that these psychological exams were finally “audited” is a clear result of the double homicide that rocked the department earlier this month. On Sept. 7, 42-year-old Maria Tran, a psychiatric nurse, and her 57-year-old husband Benison Tran were shot and killed at their Dublin, California, home. The main suspect, who has been arrested and charged, is 24-year-old sheriff's deputy Devin Williams Jr.

Wall Street hit with $2 billion in fines over employees using WhatsApp and other unauthorized messaging apps

U.S. regulators reached settlements with a dozen banks in a sprawling probe into how global financial firms failed to monitor employees’ communications on unauthorized messaging apps, bringing total penalties in the matter to more than $2 billion.

The Securities and Exchange Commission announced $1.1 billion in fines and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission disclosed $710 million in penalties in separate statements Tuesday. Those levies — against firms including Bank of America Corp., Citigroup Inc. and Goldman Sachs Group Inc. — combined with JPMorgan Chase & Co.’s $200 million in fines from December, bring the total to $2.01 billion, making them the biggest penalties ever against US banks for record-keeping lapses.

Perry Greene, husband of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, has filed for divorce after 27-years citing their marriage is “irretrievably broken.”
Perry Greene, the husband of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), filed for divorce on Tuesday, according to court documents obtained by The Daily Beast. The petition stated that the Greenes’ 27-year marriage was “irretrievably broken” and indicated that the couple, who wed in college, had been separated for some time. Perry Greene motioned to have the divorce filed under seal, arguing “that the record will contain sensitive personal and financial information, the public disclosure of which would negatively impact the parties’ privacy interests.” In a statement through a spokesperson, Rep. Greene told The Daily Beast, “Marriage is a wonderful thing and I’m a firm believer in it. Our society is formed by a husband and wife creating a family to nurture and protect. Together, Perry and I formed our family and raised three great kids. He gave me the best job title you can ever earn: Mom. I’ll always be grateful for how great of a dad he is to our children. This is a private and personal matter and I ask that the media respect our privacy at this time.” Perry Greene said in a statement: “Marjorie has been my best friend for the last 29 years and she has been an amazing mom! Our family is our most important thing we have done. As we go on different paths we will continue to focus on our 3 incredible kids and their future endeavors and our friendship.”

Air Force football placed on two years probation for recruiting violations during COVID-19 dead periods

The NCAA placed Air Force's football program on probation for two years Thursday and issued other penalties for recruiting violations committed during COVID-19 dead periods.

The NCAA said the Air Force Academy and four individuals involved in the alleged violations reached an agreement with enforcement staff about penalties. A fifth unnamed individual is fighting the allegations, and his case will be resolved through an infractions hearing.

Trevor Noah to Exit ‘Daily Show’ After Seven Years

Trevor Noah is nearing his last laugh on “The Daily Show.”

The comedian, who came out of near anonymity to take over the program from Jon Stewart in 2015, plans to exit the flagship Comedy Central series after a seven-year tenure that saw him transform it for a new generation of viewers who are more at home on social media than they are cable outlets and broadcast networks.

So she said she's trans and now she's being charged with giving individually identifiable health information to Russia?

TF??

Something does not smell right, here.

First, anyone who is pro-Russia is either far right GOP, some mainstream GOP propagandized enabler of the far right, or is far left.

Second, all of those people are viurlently anti-trans, including the antigay far left in the 60s-00s. All of them.

Third, anti-LGBTQ baiting on the far left is just as destructive as the right, particularly in places like the PRC and Cuba where it's public policy.

Even as commiebating conservatives/extremists were commiebaiting the queers, the far left was every bit as anti-LGBTQ as they were...and are...also still capitalist/boogie-baiting the queers. States in our own country are witchhunting trans families. It's barely been a year since it's legal for trans people to serve in the military.

Why in the hell would any trans person knowingly tell the Russian government they're trans? :problem:

IDK what Anna Gabrelian's surname being of Armenian descent might have to do with it, if anything. But it may be related, dunno.

Katie Halper loses job at ‘The Hill’ after calling on progressives to dismantle Israeli apartheid

Two weeks ago Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) got into hot water for asserting that you can’t be progressive and support Israel’s apartheid government. The Democratic leadership went haywire. Jake Tapper ran a segment on CNN quoting her “Jewish colleagues”, who had smeared her as antisemite. Tapper didn’t engage with Tlaib’s point about apartheid or explain to viewers why the only Palestinian member of the House might feel compelled to voice such frustration.

Now independent journalist Katie Halper says she was first censored by The Hill TV and then fired from its morning broadcast, “Rising,” after she submitted a commentary in which she stood up for Rashida Tlaib on the apartheid charge and uttered the words, “Free Palestine!”

NFLPA reportedly fires independent neurologist who was at Week 3 game where Tua Tagovailoa returned after head injury

The NFL Players Association's investigation into why Tua Tagovailoa was allowed to return in Week 3 after appearing to suffer a head injury took a drastic turn Saturday afternoon.

The union fired the independent neurotrauma doctor who was "involved" in the situation at the game between the Miami Dolphins and the Buffalo Bills, according to Pro Football Talk. Tagovailoa suffered what the team announced was a "head injury" after being knocked to the ground, standing up and stumbling before leaving the game. The hit appeared to end Tagovailoa's day, but he ended up returning to the game for the second half to lead the Dolphins to a 21-19 win.

Kim Kardashian will pay $1.26 million over crypto post, SEC says

Kim Kardashian broke the internet, and according to the Securities and Exchange Commission, she also broke the securities laws.

The SEC announced Monday that the mega-influencer, reality TV star, and billionaire businesswoman will pay $1.26 million to resolve allegations she touted EMAX tokens on Instagram without disclosing she was being paid for it. Kardashian, who the SEC said "also agreed to not promote any crypto asset securities for three years," did not admit wrongdoing.

Colorado fires Karl Dorrell after miserable 0-5 start

Colorado has fired head coach Karl Dorrell after an incredibly poor start to the 2022 season.

Colorado decided to make a coaching change after dropping to 0-5 with a 43-20 loss to Arizona on Saturday night. Dorrell was in the midst of his third season as the Buffaloes’ head coach and it wasn’t much of a stretch to say that Colorado was the worst Power Five team in college football. The Buffaloes have struggled on both sides of the ball in 2022 and the offense has been especially poor.

Royals fire manager Mike Matheny after three disappointing seasons at helm

The Kansas City Royals have fired manager Mike Matheny, the team announced Wednesday night. Pitching coach Cal Eldred was also dismissed as part of the announcement. The Royals had only recently fired longtime executive Dayton Moore, ending his 16-year stint with the franchise and signaling the start of a new era. Another front-office mainstay, J.J. Piccolo, has since been elevated to the top job.

Matheny, 52, had just completed his third season in charge with the Royals. He had amassed a 165-219 record (.430 winning percentage) during that time, with his worst season coming this year. Prior to joining the Royals, Matheny had served as manager with the St. Louis Cardinals for parts of seven seasons. He was much more successful there, winning 55.5 percent of his games as well as a pennant.
