This case fits the facts real well. So, if it holds up in court, at least it wasn't some dumb local kid. I was close, though. It was a dumbshit pyro who USED to live there.
Seems as if it might help if the LAPD patrolled and/or closed the trails on New Year's.
The fact remains that they never should have built in the Highlands, but greed trumps (pun intended) common sense every time.

Neil Young Pulls Music From Amazon: “Don’t Go Back to the Big Corporations Who Have Sold Out America”
Neil Young is yanking his music from Amazon, the rock star announced this week.
In his latest stance against a major corporation, Young wrote on his website Wednesday that soon his music would be off the platform. It isn’t immediately clear whether his action includes the streaming service Amazon Music or just his physical products from the Amazon marketplace, though in his message he encouraged his fans to buy from local businesses instead.

Neil Young has the right idea, as always, but of course record labels will still be for-profit media whores owned by the oligarchy. They will continue to push trendy rappers with funny names who wind up facing pimping charges 10 years later.
In other disasters that informed voting would have helped prevent, I can't believe how much ink/air time the Palisades fire is getting outside SoCal. From what's been in the Nooz, it appears to be more about standard LA insanity than about a natural disaster. For a start, it's hard not to believe this guy had every intention to take out his old neighborhood.
Since the pyro had lived there before he got older and washed up in Florida with the other nut cases, he knew exactly where to start it and what it would do. The fire department put it out, or thought they did, but a week later when the inevitable post-climate-change January hot wind came it re-ignited.
This is called, with tongue firmly in cheek, the California Monsoon. It used to actually rain, but two billion SUVs later, the pollution had caused all the climate issues that had been ignored for 40 years since the first warning signs. The reservoir was empty, the FD had gone through a funding cut, the mayor who swore she'd never leave the city was in Africa, and in general business was as usual in LA.
Now there are fewer structures in LA.

Israeli restaurant chain in US closes due to prolonged pro-Palestine boycott
Shouk, a kosher vegetarian restaurant chain that operated in Washington, D.C. and its surrounding areas for the past decade, has shuttered its final location following a sustained boycott campaign by pro-Palestinian activists.
The chain, co-owned by an American Jew and an Israeli Jew, served vegetarian Middle Eastern fare such as falafel, hummus, and lentil stews. Since the start of the war in Gaza, pro-Palestinian groups had urged locals to boycott the chain, accusing its owners of “appropriating Palestinian cuisine” and denouncing the business for “collaborating with Israeli apartheid” due to its import of Israeli products and brands.

Texas Supreme Court allows judges to decline performing gay marriage ceremonies
AUSTIN, Texas — The Texas Supreme Court has approved a rule change permitting judges to decline to perform same-sex marriages, citing religious objections. The decision marks the latest development in a years-long legal and cultural debate over same-sex marriage in the state.
The issue originated with McLennan County Justice of the Peace Dianne Hensley, who refused to perform marriage ceremonies for same-sex couples. The State Commission on Judicial Conduct sanctioned Hensley for that refusal, prompting her to sue the commission. Her lawsuit, pending in Travis County, argues that the sanction violates her religious freedom.

Who could replace Nico Harrison? Seven names to watch in Dallas with Mavericks GM fired
Nico Harrison was fired as the general manager of the Dallas Mavericks Tuesday. Between a dreary 3-8 start and the vociferous "fire Nico" chants that remain a constant at Mavericks home games, it seemed as though it was only a matter of time before Harrison was axed. It turns out trading Luka Dončić may not have been the best idea.
The firing will surely bring some measure of relief to a fanbase that appears utterly determined to boo Harrison out of this job, but it won't be long before that relief is replaced by a new sort of anxiety. This is a tricky job, one with plenty of upside, but a fair amount of downside. Having Cooper Flagg means everything. His mere presence gives Dallas hope for the future. But without control over their first-round picks between 2027 and 2030, we're headed into one of the most critical stretches in Mavericks history.

Brian Daboll Crashed Out. Now Can the Giants Cash In?
Someone once told me that when a person yells, it’s because they’re scared. As head coach of the New York Giants, Brian Daboll yelled a lot. When Daboll was hired by New York in 2022, his motto—which became the team’s motto—was “smart, tough, and dependable.” The Giants put the phrase on everything, from the walls of their facility to their sweatshirts. Unfortunately, under Daboll, the only thing you could depend on the Giants for was losing.
Daboll’s Giants lost big, lost late, and lost often: Their record over Daboll’s three and a half seasons in charge was 20-40-1. The “smart” from his motto became “scared.” A prime example is the loss against the Bears on Sunday: The Giants were afraid of a potential backlash against elevating Jameis Winston over Russell Wilson as backup QB, which cost them dearly when Wilson ended up playing haplessly once again in relief of Jaxson Dart. “Tough” was replaced by “reckless,” especially with how Daboll deployed Dart. Dart’s rushing prowess became the focus of the offense this season, and he’s been evaluated for a concussion four times—including against Chicago, when he was diagnosed with one. So after the Giants blew a 10-point fourth-quarter lead against the Bears on Sunday—their fourth blown double-digit lead of the year—and managed to lose Dart in the process, it wasn’t surprising that New York decided to fire Daboll on Monday morning.

Blue Owl calls off merger of its two private-credit funds after announcement rattles stock, sources say
Blue Owl has decided to call off the merging of two of its private-credit funds after the deal caused some angst among investors, according to people familiar with the matter.
The firm had planned to merge its smaller, non-traded Blue Owl Capital Corporation II (OBDC II), into the larger, publicly traded fund Blue Owl Capital Corporation (OBDC). In doing so, the firm restricted investors in the $1.7 billion OBDC II from redeeming until the deal closed, even as the merger would have meant about 20% paper losses, based on where the $17.1 billion OBDC has been trading.
