Nick Cannon announced the death of his 5-month-old son, Zen, on his talk show Tuesday morning.
Cannon said his son, who he had with Alyssa Scott in June, had been privately fighting brain cancer and died over the weekend.

India’s defense chief General Bipin Rawat, his wife, and 11 other people were killed after a military helicopter they were travelling in crashed in the southern state of Tamil Nadu, the Indian Air Force (IAF) has said.
The IAF said in a Twitter post the “tragic accident” took place near the town of Coonoor at noon on Wednesday. The helicopter was on its way from an Air Force base to the Defense Services Staff College when it crashed.

Greg Tate, an influential cultural critic and founding pillar of hip-hop journalism, has died, a representative for Tate’s publisher Duke University Press tells Pitchfork. A cause of death was not provided. Tate was 64.
Tate was celebrated for his work analyzing Black artistry and influence, and he was at the front of the first wave of journalism documenting the birth of hip-hop. While working at The Village Voice from 1987 to 2003, Tate explored the burgeoning aesthetics, influences, and values of hip-hop, contextualizing it within both Black creative lineages and white-dominated spaces of popular culture. His first book, 1992’s Flyboy in the Buttermilk: Essays on Contemporary America, collected work that had appeared in The Voice. Skilyr Hicks, who at age 14 impressed the judges of America’s Got Talent with her performance of an original song and poignant story of losing her father, died Monday in Liberty, South Carolina. She was 23.

Now, only Mickey Dolenz is the only remaining member of the band.Michael Nesmith, who attained TV and pop stardom in the Monkees and later became a prophetic figure on the Los Angeles country-rock scene and then a multimedia entrepreneur, died Friday of natural causes. He was 78.
“With Infinite Love we announce that Michael Nesmith has passed away this morning in his home, surrounded by family, peacefully and of natural causes,” his family told Rolling Stone in a statement.
Nesmith’s final show was less than a month ago, when he and the cohort who is now the Monkees’ only surviving member, Micky Dolenz, capped a farewell tour at L.A.’s Greek Theatre Nov. 14. The duo were booked for a cruise in early 2022 that was to have served as a truly final gig together.

Bobby Burns, a long-time NFL scout and assistant coach, passed away on Thursday at the age of 82.
Burns, a native of Monessen, Pennsylvania, spent 17 years coaching football at the college level before joining the Patriots in 1983, as assistant line coach and assistant to the director of player personnel. He’d later work the BLESTO scouting service, before being assigned to help re-launch the Browns in 1999. He last worked for Washington in 2004 before retiring from the NFL and returning to college coaching for a few years, as a volunteer.
