Lenny Von Dohlen, 'Twin Peaks' Actor, Dead at 64

Lenny Von Dohlen, best known for his appearances in Twin Peaks and the leading role in the 1984 comedy Electric Dreams, has died. He was 64.

According to a statement released by his longtime manager, Steven J. Wolfe, Von Dohlen died Tuesday in his Los Angeles home following a long illness. Von Dohlen played the role of the agoraphobic, orchid-growing Harold Smith. on Twin Peaks season 2. The David Lynch-created series debuted in 1990 before its cancellation in 1991 after two seasons.

Luis Echeverria, Mexico leader blamed for massacres, dies

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Former Mexican President Luis Echeverria, who tried to cast himself as a progressive world leader but was blamed for some of Mexico’s worst political killings of the 20th century, has died at the age of 100.

Current President Andrés Manuel López Obrador confirmed the death Saturday on his Twitter account and sent condolences to Echeverria’s family and friends “in the name of the government of Mexico,” but did not express any personal sadness about the death.

Africa has endured more than its share of grotesque dictators. Mobutu Sese Seko guzzled pink champagne in a jungle Versailles built from his plundering of Congo. Sani Abacha, who looted Nigeria’s oil money, was allegedly poisoned while in the company of three prostitutes. Jean-Bédel Bokassa, the self-proclaimed Emperor of Central Africa, fed his opponents to animals. Robert Mugabe, reserved by comparison, dressed in Savile Row suits while decrying the perfidious British, and brought in North Koreans to train his soldiers to massacre his opponents.

José Eduardo dos Santos, who was announced dead in a Barcelona hospital on July 8th, ruled for longer than any of these men. He was president of Angola from 1979 to 2017. His manner was restrained, he rarely gave interviews, and when he did he said little of interest. He was also ruthless, repressive and staggeringly corrupt. He was arguably the master of the neo-patrimonial, or clientelistic, style of African politics that emerged after decolonisation, using vast oil rents to run his own dictatorship. Angola continues to suffer from his legacy, which it is struggling to shake off.

Ducks tight end Spencer Webb dies in accidental fall

EUGENE, Ore. — The Lane County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that a young man died after falling and hitting his head near Triangle Lake west of Eugene. He was later identified as University of Oregon football player Spencer Webb.

According to the agency, deputies responded around 2:30 p.m. to a report of an injured person in that area. When they arrived, deputies found that the 22-year-old Webb had been out on an area of rock slides just west of Triangle Lake when he fell and hit his head.
