Collins calls draft Roe opinion 'completely inconsistent' with what Gorsuch and Kavanaugh said during hearings and meetings
https://www.cnn.com/2022/05/03/politics ... index.html

GOP Sen. Susan Collins said on Tuesday that a Supreme Court draft opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade published by Politico was "completely inconsistent" with what Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Brett Kavanaugh "said in their hearings and in our meetings in my office."

"If this leaked draft opinion is the final decision and this reporting is accurate, it would be completely inconsistent with what Justice Gorsuch and Justice Kavanaugh said in their hearings and in our meetings in my office," Collins said in a statement. "Obviously, we won't know each Justice's decision and reasoning until the Supreme Court officially announces its opinion in this case."

[snip][end]

Well, Sen. Collins, maybe it's time for another one of those strongly worded letters of concern, eh?

These federalist judges are extremists. Both Gorsuch and Kavanaugh lied during their hearings, stating they wouldn’t touch Roe. Lying judges are not fit to serve. Especially on the SC.

And Susan Collins is a liar, too. And a fool.

The History of Outlawing Abortion in America - JSTOR Daily
Abortion was first criminalized in the U.S. in the mid-19th century. A key argument was that too many white women were ending their pregnancies.

Abortion laws are racist. Often racist in intent, always racist in effect. Always have been, always will be.

Two Points.

1. As often as Susan Collins has lied to the American People, she has a lot to talk about. She heard what she wanted to hear from persons who knew what they needed to say to get confirmed.

2. As we have all seen and all heard, the Republicans are desperate to avoid the content of the draft decision, they know the blow back they will face if that decision is handed. To the Republicans more upset, in fact they up in arms over the release of the draft decision.

In fact, while it was indeed a Draft Decision of the Supreme, it is NOT a classified document. Republicans are outrage at what amounts to be a violation of the Supreme Court. Which is all well and good. Now the irony of this. The draft decision outlines in detail, the gross person voilation of a Woman's Right To Choose. The decision strips a Woman of her right to decide, in private discussion with her doctor to have a Constitutionally Protected Right To Abortion. The Republicans have no problem with what will be the legal violation of a Woman's Right to Privacy, while at the same feining out right moral indignation at the violation the privacy of the Supreme Court.

Cons are now pushing the idea that Justice Sotomayor is responsible for the leak, the only Hispanic Female on the Supreme Court. Nice how they target the only Hispanic Minority Woman Justice based on nothing else than air.

Republicans have no problem violating a Woman's Privacy, but the Supreme Court is another matter. No Federal Law was broken.

All the Republicans have Manufactured Outrage over a decision that can and will result in back alley abortions. And just think of all of the Rich White so-called "Christian" Women who will go to all those new spas in seculed areas where their "Femine Health Problems" will taken care. We certainly cannot have the Wives and daughter of Rich White Men having unwanted children, but only Rich White Women need apply.

Assuming something like the pre-1973 status quo returns, rich middle class white women in the "wrong" states will typically, after a night of partying with that boyfriend who said he would use a condom, have to take a "sudden vacation" to New York or LA for a week, one of those strange and sudden solo sightseeing trips, ... of course back then nobody was likely to get a photo of them or trace of them entering the local Planned Parenthood there ...

As always, it will be poor brown Hispanic and Black and Native women who will be the ones usually without options. :| Then, once they become a single mother, the same anti-choices will be screaming at them to go get a job instead of taking care of the baby they have no child care for. :|

"Overeducated" to these conservative men means any education past the 3rd grade.

That's a step up from their Taliban/Saudi/ISIS/Boko Haram cousins, I guess. :problem:

It's obvious they lied. Especially Thomas. He's an extremist that always wanted to overturn all rights, including Roe, Griswold and Obergefell. Thomas is an activist working for this for decades, and he and his wife have worked for this for years.

The rest pretended that their main goal of becoming a justice WASN'T to overturn Roe. The right has planned this for decades.

And before you and Glenn say "they'd NEVER overturn gay marriage", you might go read the dissents by Roberts, Scalia, Thomas and Alito. So they already have three votes to overturn it. Trump promised that every one of his nominees would vote to overturn Roe. And he got his nominees from the Federalist Society for that very thing. Via NPR:
KELLY: And interestingly, you write one of their earliest faculty mentors that they brought in was Antonin Scalia.

HOLLIS-BRUSKY: A lot of Scalia's ideas in writing about originalism and original meaning became deeply ingrained into the kind of founding consciousness of the Federal Society. And the organization really grew up as a organization that promoted Antonin Scalia's conservative judicial philosophy.

KELLY: So how does this play out if we set this against the list that President Trump says? He's got 25 names. He's going to find his next Supreme Court nominee from that list. What role did the Federalist Society play in shaping that list?

HOLLIS-BRUSKY: I would say one very direct role is that Leonard Leo, who was the executive vice president of the Federal Society, took leave from the society to construct that list for President Trump. And so that list is in many ways a product of the Federal Society and its network.

KELLY: Leo in interviews has said the president called and asked him for a list, asked him to come up with this.

HOLLIS-BRUSKY: Yeah. And I think one strong indicator of Federal Society influence here - if you think about Trump's other Cabinet nominees, his secretary nominees, he tends to gravitate towards nepotism, people who have been loyal, faithful. They're his friends. When you look at his list of judges and the people that he's put on the bench, it's been entirely controlled by the Federal Society. And that is an indicator of the pull that the Federal Society has within that space, that Trump wouldn't dare nominate someone who was just a family friend.

KELLY: Do we have any way of knowing how they may be seeking to exert influence on the pick, on who might rise to the top of this list of 25 names?

HOLLIS-BRUSKY: I think Leo, as a gatekeeper, has a lot of power and influence right now. And so as they're walking through this list of nominees, they're of course taking into consideration politics, which senators are more or less likely to vote for particular nominees. So there's broader political considerations here. But Trump has said and the Federal Society has said as much - their focus is on getting verifiably conservative judges on the court and young judges and justices.

KELLY: So that they can exert influence for longer?

HOLLIS-BRUSKY: Yeah. In the founding period, when the life tenure for judges was developed, the average Supreme Court justice served eight years, like a two-term president. And now we have Supreme Court justices serving 20, 30. And if Trump has his way, he wants this judge to be on the bench for 40 or 45 years.
So don't fucking pretend we're supposed to be surprised.

Another thing I'm not surprised about.

Here is Louisiana’s new fetal personhood bill—which House Republicans just voted out of committee 7–2—making abortion a crime of homicide “from the moment of fertilization” and allowing prosectors to charge patients with murder. https://legiscan.com/LA/text/HB813/id/2 ... oduced.pdf

Mark Joseph Stern@mjs_DC
Republicans told us for years that they would never punish women who get abortions. Now that Roe’s about to fall, they’re racing to authorize the arrest, prosecution, and imprisonment of abortion patients for murder.
[end]

Yep, Trump stumbled over this when Chris Matthews asked him this. (Might have something to do with being pro-choice until he realized he needed evangelical Qnuts to win.) He said "the women have to face some penalty".

Got that? Well look, like I said, if you argue abortion is murder, then women getting abortions should be charged with murder. No? Maybe in the biggest of ironies, they could receive the death penalty. Very "pro life". One follows from the other. (I of course don't think abortion is murder - I'm just saying IF YOU DO, this is where your "logic" leads.)

So I will admit it's strange that so-called pro-life politicians like Rick Scott won't commit to this. But at least - sadly - looks like Louisiana will. Women having abortions will be charged with homicide. "From fertilization". I guess this also makes every miscarriage a potential crime scene.

This IS their ultimate plan. They just don't want to say that part out loud because they know it will be unpopular. And they're pissed when someone spills the beans.
