Oxford High School students, parents sue school staff, Crumbley family in wake of mass shooting

A new civil lawsuit has been filed by and on behalf of Oxford High School students and their families in the wake of the fatal mass shooting in November that left four dead and seven injured.

The parents of Tate Myre -- a 16-year-old who was killed in the Oxford High School shooting -- and several students who were present for and survived the shooting are suing school staff and administrators, as well as the suspected shooter and his parents, for their alleged roles in the tragedy. In a lawsuit filed Thursday in Oakland County, the defendants are being accused of negligence for failing to prevent the mass shooting after events transpired that suggested the suspected shooter would soon initiate violence, either toward himself or others.......

3 Houston police officers shot; suspect in custody

A suspect was in custody after reportedly shooting three police officers, carjacking a driver and barricading himself inside a home on Thursday, Houston police said.

The suspect is believed to have opened fire with what Houston Police Chief Troy Finner described at a news conference as a “fully automatic” weapon.

A shooting near Virginia Tech late Friday night left one person dead and four others injured, police announced.

The Blacksburg Police Department said in a statement that police responded to reports of shots being fired at Melody Hookah Lounge in Blacksburg, Va. just before midnight on Friday night, and that several people were taken to local hospitals to be treated.

Judge orders U.S. to pay more than $230M to Texas church shooting victims

(Reuters) - A federal judge ordered the U.S. government to pay slightly more than $230 million to survivors and family members of victims of a 2017 mass shooting at a Texas church that killed 26 people.

U.S. District Judge Xavier Rodriguez ruled seven months after finding the government 60% responsible for the Nov. 5, 2017, massacre by former Air Force airman Devin Patrick Kelley at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

1 woman killed and 5 officers shot after standoff at Phoenix home; baby rescued

One woman is dead and nine police officers were injured after a shooting and standoff that involved a person barricaded inside a Phoenix home, police said Friday. The suspect is also dead.

Five of the officers were shot and four were hurt by bullet ricochet or shrapnel, officials said. Four of the officers remain hospitalized, though all are expected to survive.

Washington (February 15, 2022) – U.S. Senator Edward J. Markey (D-Mass.) joined Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), U.S. Senators Bob Menendez (D-N.J.), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.), and Cory Booker (D-N.J.) in calling on YouTube to remove videos that guide viewers on how to manufacture and assemble unserialized, untraceable ghost guns. According to YouTube’s Community Guidelines, videos that aim to “instruct viewers on how to make firearms, ammunition, and certain accessories or instruct viewers on how to install those accessories” are prohibited on the platform.

“We write to express our serious concern that YouTube continues to host videos that instruct viewers on how to make and manufacture ghost guns. This content is a clear and direct violation of YouTube’s existing Community Guidelines on firearms,” the senators wrote to YouTube Chief Executive Officer Susan Wojcicki.

Man kills his three children, himself and another victim in Sacramento church shooting

A man shot and killed his three children, all under the age of 15, one other person, and then himself at a Sacramento church in Arden-Arcade Monday evening, authorities said. All five were pronounced dead at the scene.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Sgt. Rod Grassmann said in an interview with KCRA that the office received a call at 5:07 p.m. from a worker who heard shots upstairs at the church, known as the Church in Sacramento.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — 9:30 p.m. Update - The Brazos County Sheriff's Office released an official statement after the shooting on Stokes Circle Thursday.

Deputy David Wilcox with BCSO said deputies with the sheriff's office and a DPS trooper responded to the call for a disturbance around 3:30 p.m. The law enforcement officers began searching the area and found a man with a gun. They said they gave several orders to drop the gun, but they said the man did not listen and would not let go of the gun.

An Alabama woman is fighting for her life after after her estranged husband shot her and then turned the gun on himself, committing suicide, WAFF reports.

Florida police reported on Thursday that a shooting that took place on a public transit bus left two people dead and two others injured.

“#FLPD & #FLFR confirms 4 people were transported as a result of the shooting that occurred on a bus. The bus came to a stop in the parking lot of the Fort Lauderdale Police Dept. Virginian-Pilot Reporter Among Those Killed In Granby Street Shooting In Downtown Norfolk.

Saturday would have been Sierra Jenkins’ turn to cover the breaking news shift for the The Virginian-Pilot.

When an editor learned early Saturday that several people had been shot outside a bar in downtown Norfolk, he called Jenkins repeatedly to ask her to cover it. But Jenkins couldn’t be reached.

The 25-year-old reporter was one of the two people killed when gunfire erupted outside the popular Granby Street nightspot.

Jenkins had been at Chicho’s Pizza Backstage, a restaurant and bar she’d gone to with her best friend, according to her family. The bar was closing when an argument started outside and Jenkins, who covered education for The Pilot and Daily Press, was caught in the line of fire as she left. She was later pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.
