This is the future. Gunshots everywhere. Don't go to any house ever and ring the doorbell. Maybe body armor to send your kids to school.

I don't think so. It's one of those medical condo high-rises you see in business districts, in a part of town that could pass for Manhattan if you wanted to save on location fees. It might have doctors who take VA patients, though. I never can remember, so you military guys will have to help me on whether Coasties are veterans. I suspect they are, even the Merchant Marine finally got benefits, but I can't be sure.
The shooter was former USCG, and he'd presumably had whatever firearms training was relevant to his job, but he was also a mental patient seeing some kind of psychiatrist/ psychologist. The people he shot were in the waiting room. He's just who you really shouldn't want walking around town packing heat.
They keep calling it a mass shooting, but if I remember correctly, the agency which keeps those statistics sets the bar for those at four dead. Doesn't matter, really, no matter how you count it, this is not a safe country anywhere right now.

As usual, you were too lazy to look at the facts before posting your usual shit answer. The North Charleston police said a group of teenagers pulled into the parking lot and began a fist fight. Witnesses then said they began shooting at each other.
As for this being "the normal in democratic cities with tough gun laws...," the mayor of North Charleston is a republican.A police report released Tuesday states witnesses told responding officers that a “large group” of teenagers pulled into the parking lot and began fistfighting. Witnesses then told officers the teenagers began shooting at each other before they fled in their vehicles where it appeared shots were fired from one vehicle towards another, the report states.

He responds but rarely answers. You and I know there's a difference between a "response" and an "answer" and glenn plays games by "responding" instead of "answering" and then plays the victim by claiming other are playing games with him.
When he made a false comparison of York, SC, being safer than New York City I've asked him twice why York, SC, was more dangerous than Coronado, Ca, which has 2.5 times York's population but he wouldn't even respond or answer the question but ran away by ignoring it. He'll claim he never saw the question(s).

Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
New York City is actually a pretty safe place, if you stay out of the usual bad drug-war or down-and-out neighborhoods that any city has. It used to scare me a lot more than it does now. Most of it is a monument to gentrification, for better and for worse. Most people bitch about the high cost of everything more than the crime.
Like I'm always noting, the thing with cities is that the entropy is higher with so many people crammed in together, so its failures tend to be more spectacular and cause more dead bodies. Furthermore, when something does malfunction it gets 1000 times more attention due to the concentration of mass media and the mind set that if it bleeds it leads.
Most of the time I'd take big cities over the over-rated country. Most of the time, the scary ones got that way because of race and class oppression.

Actually I did never see it. Without looking it up so I could bec100pct wrong. Just looked it up average home is about 1.6 million
A better comparison would be Bakersfield

Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
Doesn't matter because you didn't compare the income of York with that of New York.
So what. Coronado is an island meaning a limited amount of land. Coronado is already built our so if someone wants to live her the law of supply and demand drives up the prices more than anything else.Just looked it up average home is about 1.6 million
Then do the comparison between York and Bakersfield or is that going to be too much work for you.A better comparison would be Bakersfield

I notice on tv they run spots where some movie star or country music star comes on and pleads poverty for the us government saying donations are critical to help veterans, but really they have the resources and money to care for the veterans but not the will and greed gets in the way, also some kind of need to further drive down the standard of living for most people by organizing through charities instead of public policy.ZoWie wrote: ↑Thu May 04, 2023 12:22 pm I don't think so. Feel bad for the people of Georgia this after the innocent protester was killed, shot multiple times by a collection of the many different types authorities and ultimately Georgians mislead by the GBI as to the true nature of what took place. And they literally cheered and clapped after it passed.

Rich folks?
I mean, THINK before you post, Glenn. Number 6 isn't rich. He's retired military. When I visited him, he picked me up in a small sedan. Not fancy at all.
Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
You don't know his finances. Average home in Coronado is over 1.6 million. That is definitely an upscale community

Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
Coronado is popular with retired Navy personnel. It's after all the nice part of the greater San Diego area.
Keep in mind that housing costs are astronomical in most of SoCal, though of course a nice little island like Coronado is going to skew upward. But you can't do all that much under a million any more anywhere in SoCal without living in a tiny dump.
It's worth the extra money not to live in some yahoo country town where heavily armed paranoia cases shoot their neighbors.

Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
And you don't know my finances either. gounion is closer to knowing my finances than you are. As for the home value of Coronado, what you don't understand is 47% of homes are rentals. That means renters do not own a home worth over $1 million dollars.
I've explained before that because Coronado is an island, our land space is limited and when you have limited land space in a desirable location the price of that land increases in value. Because home prices are higher in Coronado than most other areas means homeowners typically need to have a higher income. That doesn't mean people making $60-70K a year or less don't live here; they do. My small condo complex have units that rent around $3,000 a month. Just because home values are high doesn't mean the owners are rich. Most people have mortgages so that's a liability you'd have to deduct from the home's value to determine who "rich" an individual is.
What I find interesting is you describe Coronado as an "upscale community with primarily rich folks" which is partially correct. So are you saying that someone not living in an upscale community poses more of a danger to other than those living in an upscale community? If so, then where you live would be considered dangerous. Of course, that would be a fallacious argument because gun violence can happen to anyone, anywhere.

Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
I visited him and the community. You haven't. It's not like a Brentwood, TN, for instance, which is mostly mansions. Seemed to be a lot of apartments and condos in Coronado. Lots of people on bicycles and on foot. We spent an afternoon together, Six came to my hotel in San Diego and picked me up, and we went and ate at a great outdoor place, and he drove me by his condo, and then took me on a tour of the base. If memory serves, he doesn't use his car much. It's a lifestyle that is completely foreign to you, so of course you attack it and try to run it down.
Re: Mass Shootings/Gun Control Reform Thread
There are some Mac-mansions here and most of those were built in the past 20 years. There are a couple of them along the beach that have been there for many decades. San Diego Padre Manny Machado lives in one on First Street, about six blocks from me (most places in town are about six blocks away). Overall, many of the homes were built in the 50s and 60s with some going back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Most of the homes would look normal if they any suburban area.gounion wrote: ↑Fri May 05, 2023 6:27 pm I visited him and the community. You haven't. And you can forget about a single gun law anywhere in the United States for at least 20 years or more because of the fascist lying corrupt assholes on the Supreme Court, any gun law passed in any state will immediately be challenged brought to the Supreme Court and overturned.ap215 wrote: ↑Sat May 06, 2023 5:24 pm Police Investigating Reports of Active Shooter at Allen Outlets

You could have a mass shooting a DAY and it would not change this. Oh wait, we already do pretty much.
Board cons donate money to politicians who vow to make this worse, on purpose.
