No person is trash.

Why are so many of you conservative whites so self-loathing that you refer to yourselves and fellow so-called whites in this way?

So weird.

This kind of segregation was imposed on everyone by conservative white like yourself and the people you admire.

It was and is enforced by the cops, which is why so many of you are so loudly pro-cop.
I am sure at one time it was actual segregation. But when I was a kid it was segregation by choice. Today most of thg he Akron neighborhoods are fully integrated. Even caucasian falls aka ticket city

:? there is no such thing as "segregation by choice." That's not what "segregation" is.

This country forced redlining and blockbusting by zip code, including in Akron, where I suppose you had no KKK relatives, so you say.

Redlining and blockbusting is "actual segregation." This redlining story about Akron housing is from the ancient epoch of three months ago.

Redfin settles lawsuit alleging housing discrimination - WKYC
The lawsuit alleged Redfin’s minimum home price policy violated the Fair Housing Act by discriminating against sellers and buyers of homes in communities of color.
No wonder you're so confused about your own participation in continued forced inequality.
Today most of thg he Akron neighborhoods are fully integrated.
 "fully integrated" meaning one Black person for miles who hasn't had a cross burned on their lawn?

How would you know what integration and desegregation even means?
Even caucasian falls aka ticket city
Finally sorry but many people are white trash
Repeating: no person is trash.

Such self-loathing.

No wonder you're a conservative. :?

I was 9, and also the people I stayed with had a rather warped view of reality.

Thanks for the clarifications.

I never really got out of East Akron. That was the name of the section. If you know where Goodyear Plant One was, that's the neighborhood. It was racially mixed at the time. Market Street went past it. There was a big brick building with a huge Goodyear sign, which I think is still there. On the corner there's a stately white building that used to be the Goodyear Bank. I was told that people were shot on the steps there, while fighting for their union.

The factories are long gone. Some of it got torn down, some of it was repurposed. Some is those empty, polluted, vaguely Superfund-looking, lots that seem to be the best aerial indicators of the Rust Belt. The union apparently won the battles and lost the war. I don't know where they make tires now. Do you?

I'm aware that isn't the stretch of the Cuyahoga River that caught fire, that was up in Cleveland, though it's not that long a drive. Disneyland is farther from LA than Cleveland from Akron. Judging from the condition of the river in Akron at the time, it only got worse downstream. It was pretty putrid. I know they've cleaned it up a lot since. I also am aware that Cuyahoga Falls is to the north, and that Caucasian Falls is still a good name for it. Just for the hell of it, I just checked Wiki and it was still 93 per cent white, down from 95 per cent in the previous census.

That's about the limit to my recollection of Akron, and obviously it was another world then. If Google Maps are any indication, there's been a lot of de-industrialization. That would raise unemployment, depress wages, and generally cause more racial tension when people fight over the remaining scraps.

This is the HOLC/redlining map for Akron, 1939. I would be interested in how similar the segregation patterns still are, 80 years later.

My suspicion is that they're basically the same, or worse, but I don't know.

The House has passed an assault weapons ban

Cache of weapons, Nazi memorabilia found after Warren man points laser at man’s chest, fires shots
Officials said they found a cache of weapons and Nazi memorabilia after they arrested a white Warren man who pointed a green laser at a Black man’s chest, yelled a racial slur, and fired shots.

A Black 37-year-old St. Clair Shores man was walking along Schoenherr Road near 8 Mile Road in Warren around 11:30 p.m. Monday (July 25) when he noticed a green laser on his chest, according to authorities.

Anthony Mangiapane, a 53-year-old white man from Warren, is accused of pointing the laser at the 37-year-old and yelling, “N-----, you better get moving,” the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office reports. Mangiapane was standing across the street in a doorway, police said.

Mangiapane fired three shots, according to officials. The 37-year-old man was on the phone with someone who witnessed the sound of gunshots, authorities said......
House passes Assault Weapons Ban
The House passed legislation Friday to revive a ban on certain semi-automatic guns, the first vote of its kind in years and a direct response to the firearms often used in the crush of mass shootings ripping through communities nationwide.

Once banned in the U.S., the high-powered firearms are now widely blamed as the weapon of choice among young men responsible for many of the most devastating mass shootings. But Congress allowed the restrictions first put in place in 1994 on the manufacture and sales of the weapons to expire a decade later, unable to muster the political support to counter the powerful gun lobby and reinstate the weapons ban.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushed the vote toward passage in the Democratic-run House, saying the earlier ban “saved lives.”

President Joe Biden hailed the House vote, saying, “The majority of the American people agree with this common sense action.” He urged the Senate to “move quickly to get this bill to my desk.”
Who are the 7 Congress members broke with their party in voting on assault weapons ban?
The House on Friday passed a bill that would ban assault weapons following a summer of deadly mass shootings that reignited calls for increased gun control. Though the measure passed mostly along party lines, two Republicans and five Democrats broke with their parties on the vote, according to the official tally.

Republican Reps. Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania and Chris Jacobs of New York cast votes in favor of the ban alongside 215 of their Democratic colleagues.

The five Democrats to vote "no" on the bill alongside 208 Republicans were Reps. Henry Cuellar of Texas, Jared Golden of Maine, Vicente Gonzalez of Texas, Ron Kind of Wisconsin and Kurt Schrader of Oregon........
Man charged for allegedly bought gun used to kill Detroit police officer Loren Courts
A Detroit man was charged after he allegedly purchased a firearm that was later used in the fatal shooting of a Detroit police officer.

Sheldon Avery Thomas, 26, was charged with making a false statement in the acquisition of the firearm. Thomas made a virtual appearance in federal court this afternoon and was ordered temporarily detained pending a detention hearing on Tuesday, July 12.

According to the criminal complaint filed today, on the evening of July 6, 2022, officers from the Detroit Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the area of Joy Road and Marlowe Street on the city’s west side. Upon arriving at the scene, an individual, later identified as 19-year-old Ehmani Davis, fired at the responding officers and fatally struck Officer Loren Courts.

ATF agents conducted a trace of the Romarm/Cigir, Draco, 7.62 caliber pistol Davis possessed during the shooting and learned that on June 7, 2022, Sheldon Avery Thomas purchased the firearm from a gun store in Eastpointe, Michigan......

Did you see the ad that Pelosi displayed next to the podium where she was addressing the House? It was for a kiddie replica of the AR-15, sort of, that fired real bullets. .22 long rifle rounds. The ad said to get your kids these so they won't envy your real semi-automatic rifle.

So the genius that is MTG thinks it's a good idea for children to have JR-15s at school? Children who are 9, 10, and 11 years old don't have the emotional development or maturity to know when to us and when not to use a weapon. MTG doesn't have the intelligence of 9, 10, or 11 year olds.

Sorry, I see that the JR-15 had already come up. Pelosi prominently displayed the ad while she was speaking. Frankly, the ad speaks for itself. It's one of the greatest overreaches in the history of marketing.

Yeah, the little skulls really made the point... the wrong point, but Pelosi's point. The marketing of firearms, like the marketing of a lot of things right now, is hastening human extinction.

This is why Atlanta can't have nice things.

Georgia’s Gun Laws Are Forcing Atlanta’s Midtown Music Festival to Cancel This Year
The annual event takes place in Piedmont Park, a public space where guns are permitted and a short-term tenant of that property can’t enforce its own ban
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/musi ... s-1390754/

[snip]

Though Live Nation did not officially give a reason for the cancellation, sources who worked with the festival confirmed to Rolling Stone that Georgia’s gun laws were to blame. Since 2011, Music Midtown has taken place at Piedmont Park in Atlanta, and parks are among the various public spaces in Georgia where guns are allowed to be carried. The festival, as a temporary user of the park, does not have the standing to supersede that law and enforce its own ban. (The festival’s website stated that “Weapons or explosives of any kind” are prohibited.)

Atlanta-based journalist George Chidi was the first to report the likelihood that Music Midtown would be canceled due to gun laws. “My understanding is that it is because Georgia’s gun laws make it impossible to bar firearms from Piedmont Park, a condition required by many artists’ concert riders,” he wrote on Twitter last Friday, July 29.

Artist riders are not to be trifled with.

Atlanta has apparently required guns at music concerts in the park, whether or not this was the intention. Letter of the law vs spirit of the law keeps a lot of lawyers working.

I hope this is a trend. No one in the public eye should have to perform in places where it's illegal to scan for firearms at the door. Even in Wyatt Earp's Tombstone, AZ, visiting cowboys were required to check the hardware at the town limits. In fact, the legendary shootout at the OK Corral was because the Clantons wouldn't.

The Clantons lost.

The House Passes Assault weapons ban

Parkland trial a rare, curtailed look at mass shooting gore
.....The surveillance video of the Stoneman Douglas shooting is silent. It shows Cruz moving methodically from floor-to-floor in a three-story classroom building, shooting down hallways and into classrooms. Victims fall. Cruz often stops and shoots them again before moving on.

The crime scene photos show the dead where they fell, sometimes on top of or next to each other, often in contorted shapes. Blood and sometimes brain matter are splattered on floors and walls.

The autopsy photos show the damage Cruz and his bullets did. Some victims have massive head wounds. One student had his elbow blown off, another had her shoulder blown open. Another had most of her forearm ripped away......

1 dead, 7 injured in mass shooting on Detroit's west side
One person was killed and seven others were wounded in a mass shooting on Detroit's west side early Sunday morning, police said.

In a news release on Facebook Sunday night, Detroit police said a suspect was in custody after firing multiple rounds and striking eight people at 2:40 a.m. According to preliminary reports, the shooter was angry about his driveway being blocked. .......

.....WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) reported the shooting was sparked by a driveway being blocked by a parked vehicle belonging to people attending a party in the 11600 block of Coyle Street, near Plymouth Road.

The alleged shooter, according to the TV station, came home to a vehicle blocking his driveway. He fired into the air before going into his home for another gun. The TV station reported he came back out began shooting at a house where a party was taking place.......

'Bullets everywhere': Survivor describes shooting that killed two, injured six in Detroit
Two people were killed and six others injured when a gunman with a high-powered weapon opened fire, apparently over a parking dispute, according to police and witness accounts.

"I haven't slept since it happened," Steen. "Every time I close my eyes ... I see everything."

The shooting suspect lives right across from Steen on Coyle Street, according to police.

Gail Beamon, who lives next door to the suspect, said the two people killed were close friends of her children. The pair weren't there for the party across the street, Beamon said. They were at her home visiting her children when the suspect got into an argument with them about where they had parked — near his driveway.

That's when the suspect went back into his house, brought out a gun that looked like an AR-15 or an AK-47, and opened fire at the pair's vehicle, according to Steen.

"They were loving, kind, hardworking people," Beamon said of the two victims who died, a 38-year-old man and a 39-year-old woman. "They're family."

Steen said that after shooting at the vehicle, the suspect went back inside his home and began shooting from atop an awning, this time toward her house across the street.

Two of Steen's cousins were shot in the face, Steen said. Her teenage nephew, who saw her standing still on her porch and pushed her down to the ground to take cover, was shot trying to save her, Steen recalled.

"I owe him my life," Steen said.

Her nephew, Jaylyn Hill, 19, was initially listed in critical condition, according to police, but underwent surgery and was stable, family members said.

Her whole family is traumatized and in shock, she said.

"I'm moving. I have to get out of this house," Steen said.

"It's so cold in this house now.".......

...Detroit Police Chief James White said Monday the suspect has a military background and had "strategically staged" guns around his home....

...."(Police) recovered 11 weapons, again, 11 weapons, from his home that were strategically placed throughout the home so as he moved through the home, he would have access to these weapons," White said......
Grieving father erupts at Parkland school shooter's trial
A grieving father erupted in anger Tuesday as he told jurors about the daughter Florida school shooter Nikolas Cruz murdered along with 16 others four years ago, his voice rising as he recounted her "infectious laugh that I can only get to watch now on TikTok videos.”

Dr. Ilan Alhadeff's emotional testimony about his 14-year-old daughter Alyssa marked a second day of tears as families, one after another, took the witness stand to give heartrending statements about their loved ones who died at Parkland's Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School on Feb. 14, 2018.

He and his wife, Lori, described Alyssa's role as captain of her soccer team, the friend others always turned to for advice or a shoulder to cry on, and her plans to become a business lawyer. He cried as he recounted how he will not dance with his daughter at her wedding or see the children she would have had......
