She wore a bejeweled dildo as part of a Hulk costume. It was an all-ages event. Whether it was deemed "family-friendly" is a matter of who is reporting on it. I did not see anything about any warnings (either way). There may well have been warnings of potentially adult content. If there was, that's on the parents if they were offended.
Inappropriate if it was family-friendly, still not the best choice for "all ages". I think it's important to notes that "All ages" does not necessarily mean "family-friendly".
If you're taking your children to a comedy show, LGBTQ show, or movie, you may see or hear things that you may not consider to be family-friendly or appropriate for children. Indeed, Pixar's Lightyear has content that some consider family content, two same-sex characters kissing!
Myself, I've never been to a Pride event. What I have seen via news or other sources is that some things are more risque than what you'd see at Disneyland. You have to be mindful of this. If things related to sexuality are too much for your children a Pride event may not be the best of choices, much like a comedy show may not be the best of choices. If children are not the target audience, there may be things you deem inappropriate.
Still, performers should be mindful of the audience.
Personally, I don't think it's any less inappropriate than taking children to a gun show or hunting Bambi with your toddlers.
So, the q. for Glennfs is where HE got this information.
It’s a question he’ll never answer because the answer is quite likely some Tucker Carlson or Breitbart or Ben Shapiro type of place.
In other words, he is propagandized and biased against LGBTQs. He has been, since I’ve been on these boards, though he and people like him tell themselves otherwise.
IDK if this guy has ever attended a Pride event, either, but I CAN tell you that he has no idea what he is talking about regarding anything having to do with any of the communities, let alone any of us who are a part of them.
It actually reminds me of 2008 when a lot of white gays were scapegoating African Americans for taking away samesex marriage/pro-Prop 8 in California with the correlation to our pro-Obama vote. It was a major problem, especially for us Black queers.
I was not surprised at all, because I’ve been dealing with that type of person for decades: the type that has spent their entire lives being inundated with generic American anti-Black ideology. They’re the sort that is very eager to believe the propaganda about “The Black Church” and “The Black Community” and all their infamous homophobia, 1- without having known any actual Black people in their lives, 2- never having set foot in any said church in their lives, and 3- never having known any Black fellow LGBTQs.
Well, we know
them, because being numerical minorities, we have to deal with them as an unfortunate constant. Those people were quite willing to believe a promoted —
and debunked — falsehood, based on their own long-standing anti-Black biases. They continued to peddle it for years in the wake of that election, despite the perception having been disproven.
Same thing is happening with the Glennfs’s of the world regarding the anti-LGBTQ crap he runs around here spouting off about.
For myself, I’ve attended only a few Pride parades, due to the crowds, but many, many Pride events. I’ve done so for work, this year, too.
Part of the larger issue why this current ploy of the rightwing to discredit and run political campaigns on these old-ass stereotypes of LGBTQ=predators is that after 50+ years of Pride and longer, there’s still a lot of ignoamce-based homophobia, and it’s not limited to the right. It’s why Pride and antu-closet/visibility efforts exist in the first place.
Otherwise, ignorance is a breeding ground for propaganda, and in this country, anti-minority propaganda always accompanies and forms the rationale for denial of civil and equal rights. Always. Today is no different; anyone can just look at the 200+ anti-LGBTQ laws and bills introduced and/or passed in the past couple years for verification.
