Trump’s FCC eyes new ways to squeeze the TV networks
Conservative television broadcasters are getting bigger under Donald Trump — and thanks to his top communications regulator, they may get enhanced power to mute the president’s critics.
The Federal Communications Commission’s approval of a $6.2 billion merger between the TV station owners Nexstar and Tegna is one step toward agency Chair Brendan Carr’s goal of boosting local broadcasters’ market heft, a shift that can help them counter the programming decisions of networks such as NBC and ABC.

CBS gets booted by 'appalled' hotel boss for China coverage
CBS Evening News anchor Tony Dokoupil's disastrous attempt to cover Donald Trump's state visit to China hit yet another wall Thursday — this time as the MAGA-friendly network got thrown out of their makeshift broadcast studio by hotel management unhappy with the on-air coverage of the China-Taiwan conflict.
Dokoupil had already been forced to report on Trump's Beijing summit from Taipei — more than 1,000 miles away from where Trump and Chinese President Xi Jingping were meeting — after failing to secure a broadcast visa to enter mainland China. But according to Status, the setbacks didn't stop there.

Pro-MAGA Outlet OAN ‘Seriously Considering’ Filing a Claim for a Payout from Trump’s $1.7B ‘Anti-Weaponization’ Fund: CNN
President Donald Trump’s allies in the media are eyeing potential payouts from the massive weaponization fund created this week in a settlement between the president and his own Justice Department.
Trump’s DOJ stirred widespread controversy this week by settling the president’s lawsuit against the IRS and creating a nearly $1.8 billion fund to pay out anyone the admin finds had the government weaponized against them. Critics of the settlement have decried its unprecedented nature, a president suing and settling with his own administration, and denounced the “slush fund” as a gift to MAGA allies

Further proof of my theory (no longer as theoretical as it was), that the oligarchs knew exactly what they were doing when they took over the media. People said that idea was paranoid, but now we know that it wasn't. History is a bitch-goddess.

The BBC's Michelle Fleury reports from Wall Street on recent government filings showing that in the first three months of this year thousands of stock market trades were made on behalf of President Donald Trump.
The trading includes shares in some of America's biggest companies.
A spokesperson for the Trump Organization said that neither the president, his family or the company played any role in selecting or approving investments. They receive no advance notice of trading activity and provide no input regarding investment decisions or portfolio management, the statement said.

Re: Media
Obviously, as someone who made my living in media and entertainment, I saw what was happening 20 years ago and tried to help stop it. A lot of people got very involved in the fight at that time, but there was no substitute for cubic money. They bought the government. We lost.
Everything since has gone exactly as was predicted. Ready to fight now, with the ship sinking rapidly? It's all about PR and spin, you know, wars don't use missiles and bombs anymore outside the Third World and a couple of places near Russia. Will we finally have the rumble we needed 20 years ago?

Longtime ‘60 Minutes’ Correspondent Says Trump Has ‘Executed’ Program
A longtime “60 Minutes” correspondent has no doubt about what led to the behind-the-scenes tumult and growing list of staff departures at the flagship news program.
CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss announced this week that “60 Minutes” executive producer Tanya Simon would be replaced by tech journalist and filmmaker Nick Bilton. Executive producer Draggan Mihailovich and correspondents Cecilia Vega and Sharyn Alfonsi were also ousted from the program.

Re: Media
The most troubling thing about Trump II is his seemingly total control of media content. This is a new one on me. The mission of the press for about a century now has always been to keep the president honest, but this time around it seems as if they've been either bought off or intimidated.

Re: Media
The situation at CBS is a total FUBAR. The right has had its way with them. Most of the rest of the media industry is not much better. All the Republican attacks on our free press, and the private capital buyouts of all the companies involved, finally did what their strategy had been all along. In other words, the old saw about America having a free press if you can afford to buy one, finally came true.
Everyone who knew anything about the situation saw it coming 20 years ago, but once again apathy won and we lost.
