Re: The GOP Snowflake Thread
Republicans Shouldn’t Switch Parties Unless They’re Ready To Switch Values And Priorities Loving Your Neighbor Is A Good Start For Geoff Duncan— But Not A Pass
When a Republican politician switches to the Democratic Party I always wonder is because of them or because of their constituents. My instinct is not not trust that they’re switching ingot faith, that they want to bring their conservative agenda and values to the Democratic Party— which has too many politicians with conservative values and agendas already. But then I remind myself: Elizabeth Warren was once a Republican too. So they’re not all just a bunch of Reagan conservatives mortified by Trump. I mean every normal person, liberal, conservative or not sure, is mortified by Trump but is that enough to embrace a fence jumper, especially one who switches parties and announces their candidacy for office the next day?
Yesterday former Georgia Lt. Governor and former Republican, Geoff Duncan wrote an OpEd in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, From Republican Lt. Governor To Democrat: Loving My Neighbor Is Easier Now. He wrote that his journey to switch parties “started well before Donald Trump tried to steal the 2020 election in Georgia. There’s no date on a calendar or line in the sand that points to the exact moment in time my political heart changed, but it has.”

Oklahoma will require teachers from NY, CA to prove they back 'America First'
Teachers from California and New York who want to work in Oklahoma public schools will be required to pass a certification test to prove they share the state's conservative political values.
Regardless of the subject or grade they teach, they'll have to show they know "the biological differences between females and males" and that they agree with the state's American history standards, which includes elements of a conspiracy theory that the Democratic Party stole the 2020 presidential election from President Donald Trump, which fact checkers have said are false.

Bomb scares and phony pizza deliveries: Democrats who fled Texas grapple with security threats
The Texas Democratic lawmakers who decamped to Illinois to block a redistricting effort in their state faced threats of arrest and criminal charges if they didn’t return home.
But as their time away from the state dragged on, the threats grew more worrisome.

Russia is quietly churning out fake content posing as US news
A pro-Russian propaganda group is taking advantage of high-profile news events to spread disinformation, and it’s spoofing reputable organizations — including news outlets, nonprofits and government agencies — to do so.
According to misinformation tracker NewsGuard, the campaign — which has been tracked by Microsoft’s Threat Analysis Center as Storm-1679 since at least 2022 — takes advantage of high-profile events to pump out fabricated content from various publications, including ABC News, BBC and most recently POLITICO.

What a silly thing for Putin to say. Mastering an AI wouldn't be the first quality I would choose to project an outcome, And why would a country delineate what the boundaries are relating to emerging AI's. There's no stopping them, no turning back, we're going to get AI's.
I already have a few. I find them fun to be around.

As i mentioned, Putin said something like that. Who knows his true intent. Could be the first nation that masters AI will have the knowledge and tools to naturally rise to the top in a kumbaya fashion when it come to what nation ends up on top of the heap. Or, there's the nefarious angle. Manipulating AI to meet hidden desires. Knowing Putin......i kinda doubt there's a kumbaya bone in his body.

Two former Eric Adams advisers accused of bribery in separate schemes
Two former longtime advisers to the New York City mayor, Eric Adams, have been accused this week of being involved in separate bribery schemes.
On Thursday, Manhattan district attorney Alvin Bragg announced the indictment of Ingrid Lewis-Martin, Adams’s former chief adviser. She is accused of accepting “more than $75,000 in bribes” as part of a “wide-ranging series of bribery conspiracies”, which prosecutors allege took place between March 2022 and November 2024 while she served as chief adviser to the mayor.

I like to talk about AI's, but from a messing with them context, political questions like should we have AI's not so much, My belief is that we're going to get AI's whether we like it or not, so I'm scrambling up the hill of knowing how to use them.

You can read up on Large Language Models, but it's pretty tough going.
It's not just an Internet thing. It's already about 75% into completely taking over our entertainment. The software there isn't LLM as much as animation and motion capture, but the result is the same. There is a very high probability that at some point it will largely replace movie actors. You can farm it out to companies already going strong in India and Japan, and it's SO much cheaper than having a cast and crew on location for 8 months getting union scale. By then they'll be using video to shoot everything except maybe IMAX for one or two summer blockbusters a year, and so it's all pixels anyway.
After that, there will be more inventions, and more people becoming rich enough implementing them to mess up our politics.
This corporate takeover of everything will continue to become more intolerable until something cracks, creating an existential avalanche that gathers strength as it sweeps more downhill terrain. Then you will see another New Deal or 60s drug/peace thing, and around we will go again. I hope I live long enough to be in the next go-round.

A Dark Money Group Is Secretly Funding High-Profile Democratic Influencers
In a private group chat in June, dozens of Democratic political influencers discussed whether to take advantage of an enticing opportunity. They were being offered $8,000 per month to take part in a secretive program aimed at bolstering Democratic messaging on the internet.
But the contract sent to them from Chorus, the nonprofit arm of a liberal influencer marketing platform, came with some strings. Among other issues, it mandated extensive secrecy about disclosing their payments and had restrictions on what sort of political content the creators could produce.

Internet influencers are worth reaching, but barely. Their biggest penetration is into the demographic groups that are among the least likely to vote. I think we need to focus more on a more mature group of opinion leaders. Also, of course, we ignore the power of standard mythic archetypes and fear of the unknown at our extreme peril. This country cycles from one manufactured "crisis" to the next, while real world crises like warmongering and mass shootings get dismissed as something akin to Boys Will Be Boys.
Watch any local TV news broadcast and you'll see the psychological power of fear. It's used 24/7 to get people to watch more TV. LA has hours of news on every day, and just about all of it that wasn't planted by publicists or political leaders is about crime and the fear of crime. There's also some kind of sick thing going where corporate marketers have been convinced by media industry groups that mass audiences will spend more money on snake oil and personal appearance if they are made to fear the alternatives.

republican Congresswoman cancels town hall event. Not because she's afraid of her constituents but because she was caught trying to pull a fast one by holding her town hall outside her district.
Republican Rep. Stephanie Bice (OK) has canceled her small town hall meeting billed as a "meet and greet" after her Democratic opponent revealed she'd scheduled it in the wrong district.
Bice has fallen under criticism from locals, including her opponent, for refusing to hold any town hall meetings where voters can be heard. Republicans have faced furious voters across the country, including in very red areas, after they passed President Donald Trump's "big, beautiful bill," which makes significant cuts to services, particularly those in rural areas and farmers.
The local site, The Lost Ogle, reported Bice's opponent, Jena Nelson, needled the congresswoman after seeing she finally scheduled a town hall. However, she scheduled it outside of her own district.

Newsmax sues Fox News, accusing it of cornering the market on conservatives
Right-wing cable channel Newsmax is suing Fox News, alleging the network has illegally cornered the market on viewership among conservatives.
In a lawsuit filed in Florida on Wednesday, Newsmax attorneys argue Fox has “long engaged in an exclusionary scheme to increase and maintain its dominance in the market for U.S. right-leaning pay TV news, resulting in suppression of competition in that market that harms consumers, competition, and Newsmax.”

Republicans are trying to raise the bar for voters to amend their state constitutions
A growing number of Republican-led states are moving forward with efforts to make it more difficult for citizen-led ballot initiatives to succeed.
The latest move has come in Missouri, where the GOP-controlled Legislature gave final approval Friday to a bill that would significantly raise the threshold to amend the state constitution through that process. The legislation, once signed by the governor, will still need to be approved by voters.
