Trump asks appeals court to block 2020 election prosecution
Donald Trump on Saturday night urged a federal appeals court to dismiss special counsel Jack Smith’s criminal case against him for seeking to subvert the 2020 election, contending that he is “absolutely immune” from the charges because they related to his official duties as president.
In a 71-page opening brief filed with the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals, Trump’s attorneys said the prosecution’s charges primarily focus on his efforts to lobby state and federal officials to reverse the election results, actions that they claim were within Trump’s official responsibilities to ensure the 2020 election was conducted fairly.

Former Dukes of Hazzard star and current Masked Singer contestant John Schneider may be facing a Secret Service investigation after sharing a social media post calling for President Joe Biden to be “publicly hung.”

A lot of my favorite guitar heroes have turned out to be absolute fascists. You can add Eric Clapton to the list.
I have no idea worth expressing in public as to the reason for this phenomenon, if there even is one.

‘Swamped with death threats’: CO Sec. of State on fallout from Trump ballot ruling
Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold joins Ali Velshi to discuss her reaction to the the state’s Supreme Court deeming Trump ineligible to run for higher office after finding Trump engaged in insurrection and the death threats she and other judges have received in the aftermath of the ruling. “It’s one of the reasons Trump is so dangerous to this country. In this country, people win and lose court cases and elections [but] we have to agree the systems have the outcomes that are correct,” Griswold says. “The use of violence to try and intimidate us is unacceptable in a democracy.” She also reaffirms that Colorado will have a Republican presidential primary, despite reports the state’s Republican party is seeking to cancel them in response to the ruling.

Lauren Boebert will switch congressional districts to improve her chances of winning in 2024
U.S. Rep. Lauren Boebert announced Wednesday night that she is ditching her reelection bid next year in Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District to run instead in the state’s 4th Congressional District, which is on the other side of the state and is far more favorable to Republicans.
Boebert won by just 546 votes last year in the 3rd District, which spans Colorado’s Western Slope into Pueblo and southeastern Colorado. The 4th District is anchored in Douglas County and includes Loveland and the state’s rural Eastern Plains.

‘A bully’: the billionaire who led calls for Claudine Gay’s Harvard exit
Chief among the campaigners celebrating the resignation of Claudine Gay as president of Harvard University was a man who arguably did the most to push Gay, Harvard’s first Black president, out the door: Bill Ackman, a billionaire hedge-fund manager and Harvard alumnus.
Ackman, who accused Gay of antisemitism and plagiarism, was a major player in what increasingly became a rightwing campaign against the Harvard president – who said many of the attacks against her were “fueled by racial animus”.

President of Belarus gives himself immunity from prosecution and limits potential challengers
TALLINN, Estonia (AP) — President Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus signed a new law Thursday that gives him lifelong immunity from criminal prosecution and prevents opposition leaders living abroad from running in future presidential elections.
The law theoretically applies to any former president and members of his or her family. In reality, it only is relevant to the 69-year-old Lukashenko, who has ruled Belarus with an iron fist for almost 30 years.
