Elon Musk says he would lift Twitter ban on Donald Trump after deal closes

Elon Musk said Tuesday he would reverse Twitter’s ban on former President Donald Trump if his acquisition goes through.

“Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for accounts that are bots, or scam, spam accounts… I do think it was not correct to ban Donald Trump,” Musk said at FT Live’s Future of the Car conference. “I think that was a mistake, because it alienated a large part of the country and did not ultimately result in Donald Trump not having a voice.”

I guess this is more of the "pro business" "freedom" GOP at work.

Hawley introducing measure to strip Disney of copyright protections
https://thehill.com/news/senate/3483021 ... otections/

Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) introduced legislation on Tuesday that would strip “woke corporations like Disney” of special protections enabling companies to hold copyright material for decades.

The Copyright Clause Restoration Act would limit copyrighted material to 56 years and apply the new rule retroactively, meaning Disney and other companies could immediately lose some copyright protections if the law were passed.

[snip][end]

MHO: it's a worthwhile debate about how long copyright should last, and when things go into the public domain. A decent case could be made for the 1998 law erring too much in the wrong direction.

That said, Hawley isn't trying to have a meaningful debate on this topic, this, especially given its retroactive focus, is a purely a national/federal "punish Disney" bill and heck of course he even says so.

Maybe a vandalism charge, but sidewalk chalk usually just washes off in the rain, it's not exactly spray paint ... :D

Manchin to oppose Democratic bill guaranteeing abortion access

Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Wednesday said he would oppose a Democratic bill to guarantee abortion access nationwide, indicating that it was too broad to get his vote.

Manchin’s decision, which he had kept a tight lid on all week, means the bill will fall short of even getting 50 votes in the Senate, where it will be opposed by all Republicans. It would need 60 votes to advance.

Another Dixiecrat 2.0 con stinking up the party.

I can’t wait until he finally openly dons the white sheet and hood and goes Republican.

Thousands Cheer As the Traitor's D.C. Hotel Closes For Good.

https://www.rawstory.com/trump-international-hotel-dc/.

The Trump International Hotel in Washington is now officially out of business after the Trump family on Wednesday completed its sale to a Miami investor group, which plans to reopen it as a Waldorf Astoria," Eric Lipton of The New York Times reported Wednesday. "The sale formally ended the Trump family’s business presence in Washington, although the family company still owns a golf course in Northern Virginia."

The hotel is in the Old Post Office, a lease which was awarded to the Trump Organization by the federal government.

"Hotel industry executives have said the hotel underperformed compared with other luxury hotels in the city, particularly since President Donald J. Trump left office, in part because some companies and travelers were reluctant to book rooms or hold events at the hotel given the controversies surrounding Mr. Trump," the newspaper reported. "Those factors most likely contributed to the decision to sell the lease, they said."

House committee refers former Trump Interior Secretary David Bernhardt for criminal prosecution

The House Natural Resources Committee announced its first-ever criminal referral to the Department of Justice on Wednesday, asking it to investigate whether Mike Ingram, an Arizona real estate developer and a campaign donor to Donald Trump, bribed public officials during Trump’s tenure as president, including then-Deputy Secretary of the Interior David Bernhardt.

Since 2019, the House committee has investigated a decision by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) in October 2017 to reverse its previous opposition to a proposed housing development in Benson, Ariz., called Villages at Vigneto. That decision was reversed again in July 2021, after Joe Biden took office as president.

Threating candidates & never getting caught for what they say is what typical Ted & other yahoo GOP celebrities would like of course they would always do this.

Unhinged TED NUGENT Urges Violence Against Political Opponents

Ted Nugent is usually good for a laugh with a lot of his off-kilter opinions, but now he's taking a turn for the outright dangerous. During a rally for former president Donald Trump on May 14, Nugent urged the crowd to go "berserk on the skulls" of basically everyone he disagrees with. You know, like any sane person does when they're upset about something.

"Think of what the enemies of America have done over the last 14 months," said Nugent as transcribed by Consequence. "They didn't sneak into the White House — they lied, they cheated, they scammed, and everyday the Democrats violate their sacred oath to the Constitution. And if you can't impress you friends on that, they shouldn't be your friends."

They still are.

Musk says he’ll be voting for GOP; says Twitter has ‘very far-left bias’

Tesla CEO Elon Musk said in a podcast episode on Monday that he would be voting for Republicans in the upcoming November midterm elections after “overwhelmingly” voting for Democrats in the past.

“You know, the reality is that Twitter at this point, you know, has a very far-left bias, and I would classify myself as a moderate, neither a Republican nor Democrat,” Musk said on the “All-In” podcast published Monday during a tech conference in Miami.

Florida Man Arrested After Repeatedly Asking 911 To Arrest Joe Biden

A Florida man is facing charges of misusing 911 after he allegedly placed repeated calls asking law enforcement officers to arrest President Joe Biden.

Jacob Philbeck, 29, was arrested on May 8 after making a series of calls to the Pinellas County 911 system requesting that Biden be arrested and former drug kingpin Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán be freed, according to an arrest report obtained by The Smoking Gun.

Wisconsin judge finds GOP election investigator in contempt

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — A Wisconsin judge on Friday found the investigator hired by Republicans to look into former President Donald Trump’s 2020 loss in the battleground state in contempt because of how his office responded to open records requests related to the probe.

The ruling against the office led by Michael Gableman, a former Wisconsin Supreme Court justice who briefly worked for Trump, came after Gableman berated the judge and refused to answer any questions on the witness stand. Gableman had not wanted to testify, but Dane County Circuit Judge Frank Remington ordered him to appear.

They hit a new low everytime they couldn't care less

Matt Gaetz hits a new low—even for him—and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shuts him down

On Wednesday, a clip of Florida man and suspected child sex trafficker Rep. Matt Gaetz speaking with carpetbagger Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene went around the internet. In it, Gaetz said that Rep. Jamie Raskin was “unable” to do his job as a Jan. 6, committee member. Why? Because Rep. Raskin’s son died by suicide. “What I worry about with Raskin, in all seriousness—when people encounter trauma, they often associate a lot of the other things around that trauma with it, even if they don’t naturally or even rationally associate.”

That’s the low point Greene and Gaetz dug to in their attempts to discredit what will likely be a barrage of revelations about how involved they both were in the failed coup d’etat on Jan. 6. Rep. Raskin, for all of the tragedy he has endured, has more integrity in a clipped fingernail than Reps. Gaetz and Greene have in their entire family tree at this point.

Agreed.

They've been inundated with confederate, rebel, Citizens Council, and KKK propaganda for the past 70 years, to the extent that they repeat it on this board right in public.

“Far-Right Republicans Press Closer to Power Over Future Elections”

Following yesterday’s Washington Post piece along the same lines, the New York Times has an analysis of the extent to which election denialists have won GOP primaries. Jim Marchant’s apparent victory in yesterday’s Republican primary for Nevada’s Secretary of State (called by AP with 80% of the votes counted) is the new leading example.

The Times has further analysis on yesterday’s primaries with this headline: “G.O.P. primary victories in Nevada set the stage for Trump-centered battles in the fall.” A couple of quotes:

Ron Johnson embroiled in controversy over staff handing Pence fake electors list

Conservative Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.), who faces a tough reelection race this year, finds himself embroiled in new controversy after the House Jan. 6 select committee revealed Tuesday that his staff attempted to hand a list of fake electors to then-Vice President Mike Pence.

Johnson is facing tough questions about how much he knew of his staff’s effort to get Pence to recognize an alternate set of electors for Michigan and Wisconsin, two critical states that helped President Biden win the 2020 election.
