African Americans have NEVER "voluntarily" segregated. This is one of the most distorted, delusional ideas I've seen you post.

Conservative whites are the ones that have self-segregated, with the major difference being that as a politicized group, you guys have done so using the courts and legislative means, not just on an individual, personal basis.

Oh and hey, happy Plessy v. Ferguson day, yet another time the SCOTUS ruled in your favor. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 is said to be a recoup of the Civil Rights Act of 1875 and the effects of Reconstruction, which were meant to be buried completely by Plessy.

Plessy v. Ferguson (1896) - National Archives
The ruling in this Supreme Court case upheld a Louisiana state law that allowed for "equal but separate accommodations for the white and colored races."

During the era of Reconstruction, Black Americans’ political rights were affirmed by three constitutional amendments and numerous laws passed by Congress. Racial discrimination was attacked on a particularly broad front by the Civil Rights Act of 1875. This legislation made it a crime for an individual to deny “the full and equal enjoyment of any of the accommodations, advantages, facilities, and privileges of inns, public conveyances on land or water, theaters and other places of public amusement; subject only to the conditions and limitations established by law, and applicable alike to citizens of every race and color.”

In 1883, the Supreme Court struck down the 1875 act, ruling that the 14th Amendment did not give Congress authority to prevent discrimination by private individuals. Victims of racial discrimination were told to seek relief not from the federal government, but from the states. At the same time, state governments were passing legislation that codified inequality between the races. Laws requiring the establishment of separate schools for children of each race were most common; however, segregation was soon extended to most public and semi-public facilities through “Jim Crow” laws.
Second-class citizenship that my grandparents and parents were born into starts here, with the Civil Rights Cases (1883), leading in to Plessy (1896).

These rulings also ensured unearned social and legal benefits for you, personally, based solely on skin color.
Beginning with passage of an 1887 Florida law, states began to require that railroads furnish separate accommodations for each race. These measures were unpopular with the railway companies that bore the expense of adding Jim Crow cars. Segregation of the railroads was even more objectionable to Black citizens, who saw it as a further step toward the total repudiation of three constitutional amendments. When such a bill was proposed before the Louisiana legislature in 1890, the Black community of New Orleans protested vigorously. Nonetheless, despite the presence of 16 Black legislators in the state assembly, the law was passed. It required either separate passenger coaches or partitioned coaches to provide segregated accommodations for each race. Passengers were required to sit in the appropriate areas or face a $25 fine or a 20-day jail sentence. Black nurses attending white children were permitted to ride in white compartments, however.

In 1891, a group of concerned young Black men of New Orleans formed the “Citizens’ Committee to Test the Constitutionality of the Separate Car Law.” They raised money and engaged Albion W. Tourgée, a prominent Radical Republican author and politician, as their lawyer. On May 15, 1892, the Louisiana State Supreme Court decided in favor of the Pullman Company’s claim that the law was unconstitutional as it applied to interstate travel. Encouraged, the committee decided to press a test case on intrastate travel.

With the cooperation of the East Louisiana Railroad, on June 7, 1892, Homer Plessy, a mulatto (7/8 white), seated himself in a white compartment, was challenged by the conductor, and was arrested and charged with violating the state law. In the Criminal District Court for the Parish of Orleans, Tourgée argued that the law requiring “separate but equal accommodations” was unconstitutional. When Judge John H. Ferguson ruled against him, Plessy applied to the State Supreme Court for a writ of prohibition and certiorari. Although the court upheld the state law, it granted Plessy’s petition for a writ of error that would enable him to appeal the case to the Supreme Court.

Black residents of Buffalo’s East Side see mass shooting as exclamation point on racism they face every day

Buffalo is the seventh-most segregated city in the country for Black Americans, according to a Brookings Institution report. The Black population had a median household income of $28,320 in 2019, according to a University of Buffalo report, with a 31 percent poverty rate. White residents had a $49,156 income and a 9.1 percent poverty rate.

“I’m crazy about Buffalo, I love it here; it can be a beautiful city,” said Regina Williams, 59, sitting in a car with her daughter and granddaughter near the Tops. But “it’s so segregated, they need to do something about it. They ain’t doing nothing about it. Nothing.”

In the first few days after the shooting, many residents here saw the horrific act of racial violence as one of many injustices threaded through their lives, and sometimes across generations.

Even the fact that the East Side has such a concentration of Black people is itself the result of discriminatory practices, residents said. And it was that segregation that turned the neighborhood into a target for the gunman, suspected to be an 18-year-old who espoused racist and white supremacist views.
Buffalo’s large and vibrant Black community can trace its roots back to the early and mid-1900s, when Black people fleeing the racist violence of the South came to Buffalo as part of the Great Migration. They were attracted to its tranquility, the freedom it offered from Jim Crow laws, and the abundance of working-class jobs. Buffalo was once one of the largest hubs for producing steel and milling flour, and it was a railroad center.
One thing this article does not mention is that Buffalo was one of THE last stops on the Underground Railroad out of this country. There are churches in this neighborhood still extant that were part of that network in the 1800s.

This young activist speaks truth to power at a May 17 city commission meeting in Grand Rapids after Congolese refugee, Patrick Lyoya, was shot in the back of the head by Christopher Schurr of the GRPD last month.

The kids are gonna be OK.
I hope they will be ok but they are in a lot of danger and having to skip being kids to be activists.

The whole country is in danger. Covid was poorly handled and trashed mental health in general, and now whackos with guns are shooting people everywhere you go. NYC used to have far less gun crime than LA but now it's got everyone worried. It's got people avoiding the subway after yet another random shooting yesterday, again apparently by some whacko (still at large) who just decided to kill a total stranger. Ridership was already down 40% and now it'll drop farther. This makes it a lot harder to get around because we're talking millions of trips here and now these have to compete for surface transit.
Apathy leads to tyranny. There's no stasis on a moving train.

It is not segregated by law. An African American family can move into any neighborhood they desire and can afford.

Hi, Mister Undereducated.

As a JUST told you a couple days ago, so-called de-factos egregation was also implemented by white-conservative, racist, anti-Black, anti-minority policies, such as redlining and blockbusting. Just like so-called de jure segregation.

It's just that with de jure segregation, you stupidshits were dumb enough to put your discriminatory practices on the books and in organizations like the Mississippi Sovereignty Commission.

All of this was bankrolled by Black and other so-called minority tax dollars, to benefit your family.

Congratulations on the crappy history.
The same as any other family.
The reasons you dimwits are so eager to have the vicious 1776 curriculum imposed on all public school students is because you're petrified that if they learn the facts about how both "de jure" and "de facto" segregation worked, and it's current effects on housing, schooling, policing, and economics, white kids will be out on the streets again for the next cop murder or white-conservative mass murder like Buffalo.

You guys keep doing this, in churches, mosques, synagogues, concerts, supermarkets, as the latest form of domestic terrorism.

As for you, personally, your own mentality about "African American families" hasn't shifted one iota since the days of the White Citizen's Council newsletter.

It shows.

Shooter who caused Texas school lockdown in custody, police say

A shooter who caused a district-wide lockdown of Texas schools on Tuesday is now in custody, police said. Though the details of the shooting are unclear, the district said that there had been an "active shooter" at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas.

The Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District — located about an hour and a half west of San Antonio — tweeted that there is "an active shooter at Robb Elementary," adding, "Law enforcement is on site. Your cooperation is needed at this time by not visiting the campus. As soon as more information is gathered it will be shared."

Latest reporting I've heard: school was shot up in Uvalde, TX, it's SW of San Antonio.

School shooter was 19. Name not yet disclosed. Reported dead - not in custody alive. Weapon so far not disclosed.

14 students and 1 teacher shot dead.

This was an elementary school. The kids were young. Speaking of "innocence". This is Sandy Hook 2.0.

Save the fetus, give the young kids bulletproof backpacks. :|

So he lived in the area, had gone to that school (obviously many years ago), killed his grandmother (*) before starting the shooting ... weird, there is such a Adam Lanza repeat vibe on this.

Oh and BTW since this town is near the border and he probably was Chicano ... before anybody goes off on "illegals" and crime, he was a U.S. citizen.

Looks like his weapons were a semi-auto rifle and a pistol, with one or more magazines. Also, they are reporting - he was shot dead by police - looks like no body armor this time.

Mass shooters of elementary school kids are douchebags, I really don't care about his race, ethnicity, ideological affiliations. Now on gender. It's weird. There are how many examples of female mass shooters? Don't think there's more than fingers on my hand. That makes you wonder about something.

We have no idea of his motivations. They're looking at Instagram postings he strangely sent to some random woman he didn't even know shortly before the shooting. No manifestoes this time.

My guess is they'll talk to other surviving family. Eventually there will be some sense to what is otherwise, regardless of who did it, a senseless act.

I'm all out of tots n pears though, it is time for action on guns in this country, and I know they said it would happen after Sandy Hook, and Newtown, and Parkland, and ... and ... and ... and ... when the fuck is enough? EVER?

Another man mass-murders 15 people in a school -- AGAIN -- yet "white conservative males" are the victims.

Much like white supremacism is destroying this country, the ravages of white supremacist victimhood have destroyed your ability to reason.

I suspect if a study was done all these shooters have some things in common. Which would be a start to determining how to start preventing them.
About 2 weeks ago I picked up one of my grandkids at school. There were multiple levels of security. I am sure next time there will be even more.
As for the ultimate answer I doubt there is one.

Reminder, this is

NOT A TRAGEDY

a tragedy is an unpreventable event like a hurricane, a fire started by lightning etc. Mass shootings are 100% preventable and WE must not call them tragedies.

Rightwingers will call them that and offer thoughts and prayers. Stuff your thoughts and prayers. You are ALL murderers.

And most proposed gun laws will not prevent most of this, because allowing people to own guns, any kind of gun, is the problem. it is NOT protected by the 2nd amendment, so enforce the "well regulated militia" part of it and NOBODY carries a gun outside of that.
