Andy Levine Is Apparent Winner in FUSD Area 5 Trustee Election

Longtime Fresno High area resident Andy Levine surged to an early and seemingly overwhelming lead in the race to elect the Fresno High Region’s new School Board trustee in votes counted Tuesday.

The updated vote count released by the Fresno County Elections Office after 8:49 p.m. Tuesday showed Levine, a community organizer and Fresno State instructor, in the lead with 56%, followed by retired parole administrator Daniel Renteria with 21%, retired teacher Russ Allen with 12%, and retired firefighter Andrew Fabela with 11%.

Early results for Banks Fire recall election are in

Early results in Tuesday's recall election—which are not yet final and do not include ballots still in the mail—are in, and the results are too close to call for one target of the recall, and another is on track to keep his seat if the results hold.

The first round of results posted by the Washington County Elections Division show Banks Fire District 13 Board Chair Mark Schmidlin clinging to his seat with just five votes keeping him in office in initial results, which do not include ballots that may have been mailed but not received yet by the county.

‘A plot to destroy democracy’: civil rights group raises alarm at threats to US elections
State legislatures using gerrymandering, voter suppression, misinformation and intimidation to make voting more difficult
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/202 ... acy-report

An “insidious and coordinated” effort between lawmakers and extremist groups is under way to undermine American democracy, according to a new report.

On Tuesday, the nonpartisan civil rights organization National Urban League released the annual report in its analysis series The State of Black America. The report, called Under Siege: The Plot to Destroy Democracy, outlines the “conspiracy and the urgent case for a national mobilization to protect and defend our most sacred constitutional right”.

It focuses on four main tactics that it says are used in this effort: gerrymandering, voter suppression, misinformation and intimidation.

In 2021 alone, 20 states have leveraged census data to redraw congressional maps, it noted. The new maps proposed by Republican state lawmakers “are no more than modern-day gerrymandering that strips voting power away from communities with Black and brown voters”, the report said.

It also listed 34 laws passed in 19 states between January 1 and December 7 2021 that make it more difficult for people to vote.

In addition to shortening the window to apply and deliver mail ballots, those laws limit absentee voting lists, restrict assistance in returning a voter’s mail ballot, reduce the availability of mail ballot drop boxes, and increase barriers for voters with disabilities, among other restrictions.

“The burden of these laws – strict photo ID requirements, the elimination or restriction of Sunday voting, voting by mail and early voting, and the closing of polling locations – overwhelmingly falls on Black voters,” Marc Morial, president and CEO of NUL, said in the report.

“Since the passage of the Voting Rights Act in 1965, the United States has seen a steady rise in disenfranchisement practices giving one party an edge over the other. But never before has the nation seen such an insidious and coordinated campaign to obliterate the very principle of ‘one person, one vote’ from the political process.”

According to the report, state legislatures in 18 states carried over at least 152 restrictive bills from the 2021 legislative season. Additionally, in states that allow lawmakers to “pre-file” bills ahead of the next legislative season, at least 96 bills in 12 states would make it more difficult for voters to cast their ballots.

The report also laid out steps that have been taken to sabotage elections, including discrediting the vote and outright aiming to establish one-party rule, as demonstrated by the Stop the Steal movement.

It also notes an uptick in intimidation of election officials since 2020, with one in six local election officials saying they have personally experienced threats, and a quarter concerned about being assaulted because of their role.

Additionally, the report found that election workers are resigning and retiring at alarming rates, with one in five saying that they are “very” or “somewhat” unlikely to continue serving through 2024.

Collegues Worry Diane Feinstein Is Mentally Unfit To Serve, Citing Recent Interactions.

https://www.sfchronicle.com/politics/ar ... 079487.php.

WASHINGTON — When a California Democrat in Congress recently engaged in an extended conversation with Sen. Dianne Feinstein, they prepared for a rigorous policy discussion like those they’d had with her many times over the last 15 years.

Instead, the lawmaker said, they had to reintroduce themselves to Feinstein multiple times during an interaction that lasted several hours.

Rather than delve into policy, Feinstein, 88, repeated the same small-talk questions, like asking the lawmaker what mattered to voters in their district, they said, with no apparent recognition the two had already had a similar conversation.

I am the first to admit that I have numerous problems with DiFi, mainly due to her policies as Mayor San Francisco regarding treatment of the Homeless of the City. Also, in 12-CADEM Conventions I attended DiFi only showed once, in 2018 which was for the CADEM Endorcement which she did not receive.

I've long held that DiFi tenure in the Senate should end. Not because of her age, but because like most Senior Dems her continuing presence in the Senate prevents younger Democrats from running the U.S. Senate. DiFi takes her reelections granted, DiFi counts on no California Democrat running against her.

DiFi has not held a townhall in years, she has limited contact with her constiuents and only meets with editoral boards of Caliornia Newspapers during election year.

Yes, I know she shuttled between D.C. and SF to take care of her now deceased husband, Richard Blume.

But I honestly believe her time in the U.S. Senate has come to and end. As it stands right now, she will NOT receive the Endorcement of the CADEM (Again) in 2024. Other California Democrats such as former S.F. Supervisor/State Senator Marc Leno have given up running the Senate.

It is not her mental accuity that bothers me. It is her overwhelming ego and her desire to become longest serving Senator.

I'm not concerned much about how old a person is holding public office because there are many people in the 70s and 80s who are mentally sharp. However, in Feinstein's case, if it is true she is having problems mentally, that is remembering things, then the leaders of the California Democratic Party, Biden, and her fellow Democratic Senators should talk with her and if they feel she is no longer mentally up to the challenge of being a Senator they need to convince her to resign and allow Governor Newsom to appoint a Democrat to replace her. I'd also recommend the party leaders honor her some way like in a formal banquet or other appropriate way.

That would be the way to do it. She has long record of public service, and it should be respected.

Ohio Election's Official Would "Be Fine" With Impeachment Ohion Supreme Court Justice Over Redistricting Maps.

https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2022/04/ ... g-rulings/.

Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose on Friday said he “certainly wouldn’t oppose it” if the legislature impeached Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor over her joining in rulings rejecting GOP-generated maps for Congress and the legislature, according to a recording of a breakfast meeting with Union County Republicans.

LaRose, who is not a lawyer, said in the recording his fellow Republican “violated her oath of office by making up what she wants the law to say instead of interpreting what it actually says.”

O’Connor joined the court’s three Democrats in ruling multiple times that the congressional and legislative maps approved by a majority vote of Republicans violated the Ohio Constitution by unfairly favoring

Some Republican members of the legislature had previously raised the possibility of impeaching O’Connor, who will leave office at the end of the year. But LaRose, the state’s top elections official, is apparently the first of the five Republicans on the state’s seven-member redistricting commission to say he’d go along with it.

Judge Mark Howard Cohen Appointed By Barack Obama

Federal judge rules Abrams cannot use committee to raise unlimited funds

A federal judge ruled on Thursday that a fundraising committee associated with Georgia Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams cannot yet begin to raise unlimited sums of money under a state law passed last year.

Abrams and her yet-to-be-approved leadership committee, One Georgia, filed a lawsuit last month asking that the fundraising committee be allowed to take in unlimited contributions because Abrams is already effectively the Democratic nominee for governor.

Rachel Maddow Follows The Money On Shadowy R-Wing Group Attacking of Biden's Nominiee's.

https://www.rawstory.com/republican-dar ... -nominees/.

Every single nominee for President Joe Biden is being opposed by a far-right shadow group called the American Accountability Foundation. The right-wing, tax-exempt organization, is smearing every nominee claiming to do "research" on the people that are being brought in to run the U.S. government.

MSNBC's Rachel Maddow on Monday discussed this in a segment that played off a story that New Yorker reporter Jane Mayer tracked down when she tried to figure out why Republicans were opposing Sarah Bloom Raskin for a position on the Federal Reserve Board as the vice-chair for supervision.

As Mayer explained to Maddow, Raskin is incredibly well qualified and liked by the banking world and had been confirmed twice before with bipartisan support. Suddenly, there were allegations that were made up that she had an "ethical problem." Mayer explained that the allegations have "nothing to do with reality" and are a "made-up story."

I have missed her reporting. Velshi is good, but he belongs in the field. His reports from Ukraine were EPIC.

I like the way she led into this story. She describe how Putin leveled phony pedophile charges against an investigative Russian reporter looking into corruption on Boris Yeltsin when Yeltsin was Russia's first president after the fall of the USSR. Putin was in charge of the FSB and for doing that for Yeltsin, Yeltsin made him his successor which eventually Putin became dictator. Putin then used this tactic against anyone who was a threat to him. Rachel showed how this is a tactic of fascists and using an article written by Jane Mayer who followed the money to the people who tried to smear Ketanji Brown Jackson.

Judge: Voters Can Challenge Marjorie Taylor Greene's Relection Run.

ATLANTA (AP) — A federal judge on Monday ruled that a group of Georgia voters can proceed with legal efforts seeking to disqualify U.S Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene from running for reelection to Congress, citing her role in the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol.

https://apnews.com/article/2022-midterm ... 52ff007453.

The challenge filed last month with the Georgia secretary of state’s office alleges that Greene, a Republican, helped facilitate the Jan. 6, 2021, riot that disrupted Congress from certifying Joe Biden’s presidential election victory. That violates a rarely cited provision of the 14th Amendment and makes her ineligible to run for reelection, according to the challenge.

The amendment says no one can serve in Congress “who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress . . . to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same.” Ratified shortly after the Civil War, it was meant in part to keep representatives who had fought for the Confederacy from returning to Congress.

The commission is composed of five Democrats, five republicans, and four from neither major party. They redraw the Congressional districts, the State Assembly districts, the State Senate districts, and State Board of Equalization districts.

The commission was created as a result of voters passing Proposition 11 passing in 2008. As the commission's website states:

As you have pointed out many times these disgusting cons rely on the government to enforce their white supremacy garbage.

The judge in FL, not qualified and writes like a teenager according to other lawyers, has just sentenced many of us to death to please trump, I may be one of them.

Idiot board con said all of trumps appointments were qualified, they weren't, aren't. 10 that we know of are not. Many are technically qualified but are overtly political and intend on enforcing white supremacy. It is either 10 or 9 depending on which site you look at.

Obama didnt appoint a single unqualified judge. BTW, I hate cons and they are now actually going to maybe kill me with this ruling.

According one jurist who read the decision by the Traitor appointee, it read like some a 1-L would have written and the grade received would have been an Incomplete.

Nor does she have the authority to issue a Nationwide Ban. The Biden Administration is going to challenge her decision. There is serious doubt it will stand.
