A Secret About Fuel Prices

Post by Glennfs »

Yes there is price gouging. But, not from the oil companies it is from the retailers. Now if you need varification GoU can vouch for this.

I have my equipment leased to a major corporation. Part of my lease agreement is I get to buy fuel from certain retailers for the same price they charge the big corporation I am leased to.

I recieve between 50 and 80 cents off the pump price. Friday I paid 4.27 when the pump price was over 5.60. But, I think that was an error in my fuel app. Well, the retailers arent losing money when they sell me fuel for 80cents off pump price. I have no idea how much they make at 80 cents off but surely it is at least 25 cents.

Now that you know the secret check out how politicians and liberal pundits all claim so called big oil is the cause of price gouging. Because of course it is much easier to make big oil the villian than tell the truth.

BTW, haven't found too many good reviews. Now I might really cotton to good comedy about conspiracies. But ugh. Mike Myers plays 8 characters in the show PLUS Shrek? Also, it's clearly a 90 minute movie they somehow pad and break up into 6 30 minute "series" episodes?

Sigh. It's the ongoing conspiracy of Netflix to unleash ... Drek. I did like Austin Powers, but this doesn't seem to be anywhere near as good.

With the demand for product at an all time high, to fill the bottomless FEED ME of a zillion streamers all competing for subscriptions, it's inevitable that a lot of dreck will get made. Much of it will be highly advertised dreck, further increasing the general noise that characterizes life since investment capital and internet had their shotgun wedding.

I agree based on what little I have now seen. He does seem limited to certain characters, though his role in "Bohemian Rhapsody" was really good and different. Did you see Axe Murderer? when he does his father talking to him as a kid, the big head

Here's the MOST likely thing: The retailers do not have that kind of markup. Best guess is that they get a rebate from the oil companies on this. Because, let's be clear - the oil companies aren't paying any more money taking the oil out of the ground and refining it than they did two years ago. If they were patriotic Americans, they would be selling the oil for a reasonable profit like they had to two years ago. But they can make more now in collusion with each other, so they do.

And you blame Biden. It's a double good thing for them, they're helping Trump get elected in 2024, and you're a willing dupe for them.

Not from the oil companies?

In recent days, major oil companies in the United States have said they would rather use their earnings from higher prices to boost payouts to shareholders and expand their operations slowly, rather than rush to drill new wells.

Who sets the price of a barrel of oil? Your local Shell station? weird, I did not know that. Is it solely the oil companies, no, but it starts there of course for obvious reasons.

The right worships multinational corporations and wants them to rule us, instead of a democratic republic. That's why they all blame the government for everything the corporation does. Just like on the baby formula. "It's all Biden's fault!"

It is like saying the cotton industry has nothing to do with the cost of a cotton t shirt, not a very good example but you get my drift.

The retailer you buy your gasoline from is not owned or operated or controlled by the oil companies
So if the retailer can give me an 80 cents per gallon discount the price gougIng is on the retail level.

No you've been conditioned to believe whatever the left tells you to believe.
So if the retailer which is not owned or controlled by the oil company can give 80 cents per gallon discounts and still make a fair and reasonable profit where is the price gouging happening.

Obviously at the retail level not the wholesale level

The man that owns the Cleveland Browns also is one of the owners of over 650 travel centers.
They set the retail price not the oil company they buy their product from.
As far as that goes the wholesale gas farm in most cases isn't owned by thg he oil companies either.
Every chain buys from the same farm

Very disappointing as you know I am getting these huge discounts.
So answer this
If the retailer can charge me 4.60 and turn a profit. Then charges you 5.40 for the same product
Is that retailer price gouging

Probably, but it's likely not all them. I don't believe they're charging a dollar more than they're paying. I think that the oil companies are giving them a rebate on part of that.

Also, some employers contract as much as a year in advance for fuel, if they're big enough. So they're paying what they contracted to pay a year ago.

It could be that.

But let's be clear: The oil companies, and yes, the retailers are gouging Americans. It's not Biden to blame.

I worked for a medium sized retail chain of gas stations and tire distributor, owner was former Chevron VP, I know about this stuff, unfortunately.

The people who grow cotton dont set the t shirt prices either, but what they charge people who make cotton clothes is the primary factor for what a new t shirt costs. Basic common sense.

Two points to address that are related to each other.

First, glenn said part his lease agreement to a major is to by fuel from certain companies.

Second, gounion mentioned major corporations negotiate fuel prices a year in advance.

So it would seem glenn’s cost of fuel was the result of a pre-negotiated agreement. That doesn’t seem unreasonable for companies to do.

I’m currently in Las Vegas for another bowling tournament. I drove from San Diego stopping at the Victorville Costco, to stretch my legs and relieving myself, and then straight in to. Las Vegas. I paid $5.62 a gallon at the Navy Base before I left and filled up at Nellis AFB for $4.94 a gallon. I decided, because of the price of gas, to drive between 55 and 60 miles per hour. I took me just a little over six hours to get here and here are some of my observations of drivers on the road. I took I-15 to San Bernardino to the 215 which then reconnected with I-15 all the way to Las Vegas. The best I had averaged before was 32 mpg and this trip it was 36 mpg. When I leave for home, I’ll again drive between 55 and 60 miles per hour and I’m thinking I’ll get slightly better gas mileage, around 38 mpg. Here are some of my observation concerning people’s driving habits and the cost of gas.

The speed limit on most of the was is 70 mpg and the average speed, I’d say, people were doing was no less than 75 mph. Of course, I stayed in the right-hand lane most of the time and when there was a lane for trucks and slow vehicles I moved into it. I’d be willing to bet those who were doing 75 plus mph are also the biggest complainers about the high gas prices. Back inn the 70s when we had the Arab Boycott of oil people were encouraged, and most people did, to drive at 55 mph to conserve gas. We don’t have a gas shortage but with the high price of gas it would be wise for people to slow down on the highways and stretch their mileage. Increased mileage equates to dollars saved.

Also, if the price of gas is due to lower supplies of oil the how come there aren’t long lines at the pumps or rationing of gas as we saw in the 70 and why is the U.S. still exporting oil? It seems everyone is able to fill up their vehicle so where’s the shortage.

It comes from a part in the movie I married an axe murderer where his father is talking about conspiracies. That clip just expanded upon and made a series out of it. The main role is about a canadian extremist his extremism being kindness.

I have a cousin who you are describing completely. He's ALWAYS been OBSESSED by gas mileage and price of gas. I mean, obsessed BAD. He's been that way since he became an adult in the the 70's.

But you know the ONE THING that he's never owed? An economy car. Always performance cars, SUVs and trucks. Now, I've never owned an economy car either, but then, I'm not obsessed.

I know of at least one major company that buys oil futures as a hedge to rising prices.
But that company has fuel at all its terminals and fuels over 5000 trucks a day.

They also do not pass the savings on your owners operators. They only guarentee the OO price will be the lowest in the area

So you're saying that the high prices are by the retailers only, that the oil companies haven't raised prices at all, right?

I am saying ee have had 100+ oil before without $6 a gallon gasoline.
The real price gouging is the retailer. Any price gouging by the oil companies is minor by comparison
